This is a nice mixture of alcoholic burn and sweetness. It's very distinct from bourbon and scotch in that it has a touch of sweetness on the front end that metamorphisizes into the a pleasant, not overwhelming alcoholic burn. Think of it like a hybrid of scotch and bourbon, which may have something to do with the fact that it's done up in exbourbon casks that have had plum juice or whatever it is for two years before taking on the good stuff.

Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed October 24, 2016 (edited November 1, 2016)Yeah, this is very much in the same vein as Lagavulin. That peaty, leatheriness rolls in after you've thought that you imagined another flavor on the front end. I really don't know what it is, but it sure as hell isn't floral, vanilla, or any of that soft shit that you'd see in a Bath and Body Works or your girlfriend's vanity. No, this is ax handles, mud, jerky, and ground-up lumberjack. -
It's a light start. For the first microsecond, you might've thought you picked up your water glass instead. It opens with a release of a..texture? Think caramel or vanilla, and it sets the mouth-feel for the dram. A sweetness comes with the alcohol. Overall, it's got a fullness, some sweetness. This isn't a heavy hitter, but for what it does, it's definitely an enjoyable drink.
