I went to the liquor store contemplating buying a nice and inexpensive bottle of scotch. After about 15 minutes or perusing the available options, I decided to forgo the purchase and just get a bottle of crown royal for my wife. That's when the Crown Royal Bourbon Mash caught my eye. I had no idea that it existed so it was a pleasant surprise indeed. It's a lovely copper and gold colour in the glass, giving it a closer resemblance to Makers Mark than to the classic Crown Royal. The nose has a nice bourbon smell to it with stronger notes of corn and cracked pepper, and lighter notes of vanilla, woody oak, and a touch of dried fruit. The Palate is definitely not as smooth as some bourbons, with corn and pepper being the more predominant flavours. The finish is what I can only describe as a short breath of vanilla that is swiftly overtaken by the oak, before they both disappear rather quickly, not leaving much else to linger or savour. For the price it's not a bad whiskey, but it's not one I would be likely to buy again. Final verdict: If you are new to bourbons this is a good place start, as it will likely only get better from here. Cheers.

Salty caramel and vanilla, followed by ripe fruits, though mainly including plum, raisins and apricots. It finishes with a bitter and spicy bite followed by a mellow bite of smoke that lingers enjoyably. A great introduction into the more heavily peated whiskeys. Certainly not a campfire, but maybe a wood burning stove. Cheers!

Don Julio 1942 Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed November 6, 2016 (edited November 7, 2016)I'm sitting in a small Mexican cafe eating enchiladas and siping on this tequila for the first time, and I must say I am not disappointed. On the nose there's butterscotch and oak. Upon the first taste I get some spice that is quickly mellowed out by wonderful caramel flavour. It's certainly not overpowering unlike other tequilas, and definitely very easy to just sip on. I would highly recommend it if you can get past the price point. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-01 "Big Man, Small Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 31, 2016WOW! I did not expect the spice tthat came with this bourbon(( though I should have!). Flavours of cherry and vanilla are prominent upon the first sip if your drinking it neat. If you decide to add some water or ice(( highly recommend) it becomes a much more drinkable spirit. I would not recommend using it for your old fashioned, but if you enjoy a good quality bourbon I would highly recommend! -
Great scotch for new or experienced scotch drinkers alike. On the nose you can pick up notes off toffee and citrus. My first taste was without any water and it was quite nice. I picked up some notes of tobacco and burnt caramel along with a slight bit of smoke. After I added a touch of water I found it got a bit sweeter and a nice touch of sea salt came through. Definitely worth a having in your cabinet.
