Sam Houston American Straight Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed April 25, 2014 (edited March 29, 2015)For those who like Canadian whisky, I'd say this is a good alternative. Very sweet and soft in style, with some spice in the finish (rye content perhaps?) but moderately priced compared to the purple cloaked king of Canadians. I don't really see much of the bourbon in here and wish they were more forthcoming with the source, but we are talking American whiskey, so we know that won't happen. -
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed April 25, 2014 (edited September 12, 2017)This is not what I'd call a true rye, but something totally unique. It is by far the "sweetest" whiskey I've ever had, minus the flavored liqueurs masking as whiskey that are so popular these days. Fantastic notes of sweet baking spices (particularly cinnamon), toasted nuts and sugar cane make for a great dessert pairing whiskey. Very polarizing in my opinion, one you either love or hate. Count me in love.
