Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed December 21, 2018 (edited November 7, 2019)45.8% abv Chill filtered Color added Nose: Red and green apple; juicy pear; slight cranberry; light smoke and peat; hints of vanilla custard and brown sugar; Lime? Palate: sweet and tart fruit building into drying blast of pepper and sea salt; ginger; apple cider; sour hint of grapefruit; medium peat; medium viscosity. Finish: Strong menthol; sherbet; slight anise/black licorice; drying; dark honey; hint clove and cumin; medium length. Value: For $55-65 dollars? Meh. Closing thoughts: While a somewhat unique and particular single malt, this dram just does not completely do it for me, especially given the price. But I can see why others really enjoy it. IMO you can do better for less if you want smoky peat (Ardbeg 10 comes to mind $45-50), or if you want light peat and maritime notes, Old Pulteney 12 is $30-40. Updated Final score: 3/5 Recommend trying or buying a bottle at a good price. -
