Lark Slàinte Whisky Liqueur
Herbal/Spice Liqueurs — Tasmania, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021 (edited January 14, 2023)The @larkdistillery Slainte is not my usual tasting, but it’s one of those drinks that just puts a smile on your face. This is a dessert whiskey liquor and is based on their single malt infused with botanicals. On the nose, it’s nothing like a whiskey, so much orange on the nose you’d almost confuse it with Cointreau. It reminds me of working behind the bar and mixing cocktails. Heavy orange and a little bit of whiskey undertone. Taste is super sweet, super smooth, super easy to drink. Orange, vanilla, sugar hits early with a aniseed liquorice finish. -
Corowa Distilling Co. "Mad Dog" Morgan
Single Malt — New South Wales, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021@corowadistillingco “Mad Dog Morgan” on the nose is sweet, floral, citrus and a bit of caramel. To taste has a little bit of a woody/oak taste with a wave of caramel, vanilla and dates. Finish is not incredibly long but what you taste is warm and inviting for another sip. I need to get a bottle just to try it in an old fashioned, it would be perfect! -
The Gospel Straight Rye Whiskey
Rye — Victoria, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021 (edited December 10, 2021)Rye is not for everyone and not normally my thing so I proceed with caution. On the nose there’s a distinct rye note, with spice and ginger. Reminds me oddly of my favourite spiced rum mixed with ginger...weird. On tasting, a huge wave of rye bread with a following, green earth, spice and caramel. Amazingly smooth to drink, the taste lingers and very warm. -
Corowa Distilling Co. Corowa Characters
Single Malt — New South Wales, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021 (edited October 6, 2022)On the nose it’s a bit floral with hints of honey and nectarines. Taste is peppery, with a distinct finish of ripe fruit then savoury, long and warm. I feel like this could make a great old fashioned, over ice with a little bit of orange peel. -
The Gospel Solera Australian Rye Whisky
Rye — Victoria, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021 (edited February 2, 2021)On the nose it is sweet, caramel and slightly fudgy, with a delicate floral note. It’s been double distilled, to taste it’s smooth and oily, that fudge hits hard, it’s like a caramel that’s taken right to its limit, then infused with booze. It’s slight spicy on the end, keeps you warm, like a big whisky hug. -
The @bladnochwhisky 11 year single malt really highlights what a difference the maturation process makes, a decade in the ex bourbon casks has made an absolute cracker! On the nose the sweetness of honey and citrus are refreshing and welcoming. The honey follows through in tasting and an on going peppery taste lingers.

Hellyers Road Slightly Peated Single Malt
Single Malt — Tasmania, Australia
Reviewed January 17, 2021On the nose the smoke will hit you right in the face, as you pull away though you might just catch some citrus. To be honest the taste wasn’t quite for me, though I can see its appeal. Citrus sweetness, some malt in there and a thick layer of smoke that holds strong minutes later. If you love a heavily smoked whisky, this one is definitely worth a look in. -
Personally I really have to be in the mood for peaty whisky so struggled a little to begin with. On the nose it reminded me of something from the highlands so I was interested! It was easy to drink, though I found I lost a lot of the complexity behind the smoke. Add a dash of water and see the whole drink take on a new persona! Like Clark Kent taking off his glasses a whole new drink is in town, toffee sweetness still keeping the lingering smoke and warmth. So incredibly interesting to see something like this come from less than 20km down the road!
