just barely a 4-star offering. classic single malt nose. the garryanna adds an almost bourbon-like sweetness which coats over the slight sourness in the palate. a solid dram that's almost great.

the blend of japanese sweetness up top with the tradition barrel flavor underneath is an interesting proposal. the flavors are a little too separated for the smoothest of deliveries, but the mizunara is an interesting flavor twist that makes this pleasantly interesting for a semi-rare mid-priced bottle of blended scotch.

not a world beater, but very enjoyable. loads of up front & wonderful over the tongue dark sugary sweetness pushed through by the higher proof. the finish falls slightly flat, but adding a cube or a couple drops of water brings the finish roaring through.

port is more relevant as you let it sit in your mouth. dry feel &slight alcohol burn. yummy dry sweet finish. 2/15/20 - revamped review: the palate is a bit thin. pleasant enough for easy drinking.

solid compass box offering. not too sweet on nose or palate but the finish leaves the sweetness hanging on your tongue. quite enjoyable.

a bit sour on top, a bit sweet underneath. you can smell & taste the fennel & herbs but they aren't distracting. this would be a great bourbon for deli sandwiches or brined or pickled veges. a unique expression

for an apple flavored whiskey, this one is tough to beat. great natural flavors & creamy texture.

nary a sour note to be found. wonderfully sweet, hot & soft spices.
