Lock Stock & Barrel Straight Rye Whiskey 18 Year
Rye — Canada
Reviewed March 16, 2019 (edited December 5, 2019)Smells like awesome rum. Tastes like a rye that is a smidge too sweet, and not enough spice. Don’t get me wrong, this rye is delicious. However, every rye between $40-90 that is rated highly is better than this. I have no regrets buying this bottle, because it was a unique experience, but I won’t miss it, and I’m glad it’s no longer taking up space on my shelf. -

Highland Park The Light 17 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 2, 2018 (edited April 6, 2019)Top five drams for me at WhiskyFest SF. I loved The Dark, but The Light is more of an outlier as far as the standard HP flavor profile is concerned, and I MUST find a bottle tomorrow.San Francisco Marriott Marquis -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2018 (edited September 30, 2018)This is really good bourbon. I tasted it a couple years ago in a bar and loved it. I finally scored a bottle, or two, and it’s even better than I remember. Nose: Brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla. Palette: Same flavors from the nose carry through, but now I get cinnamon, with a dash of oak. Finish: Oak & spice. Very well balanced, and very drinkable. Actually........CRUSHABLE! For the price, it’s hard to beat. I’m glad I scored two bottles, but I should have bought the last two as well!34.0 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2017 (edited October 3, 2018)My first Forester, and I loved it! The nose had me intrigued, with brown sugar, chocolate, and dark fruit all working together. Palate had the same flavors, but adds hints of smoke and coffee. The finish continues as expected, with allspice showing it’s beautiful face. I could drink this all night. Adding a tsp of water to my dram made it oh so buttery! If Old Forester was producing “medicine” like this in 1920, I bet everyone was healthy as can be.
