Deanston Decennary
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed January 1, 2019 (edited November 12, 2019)In celebration of their 50th anniversary, Deanston released the Decennary which is a blend of four of their single malts: 1977 whisky refill, 1982 American oak, 1996 port pipe, 2006 Predro Ximenez. It is an un-chilled filtered whisky finished in oak casks. My tasting notes: N - apples, cherries and honey T - sherry, citrus, nuts and chocolate F - light peat blows away the front and turns into a honey sweet finish that lingers. The bottle description adds that there should be a bit of toffee on the nose and aromatic spices in the taste. We bought this bottle at the distillery. It is a fantastic release and the best expression of Deanston I’ve had thus far. -
Redbreast 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed October 2, 2018 (edited December 14, 2019)N - vanilla, cherry, light fruits, raisins T - sherry, pine, dark chocolate F - pepper, wood The spice and wood were in the foreground at first, especially on the finish. Adding a drop or two of water brought out the sweet notes in the taste. A good one to sit and brood over when you have the time. -
N- brine, cherried sherry T- oily, a bit of sweet raspberry, light sea salt, slight coconut F - citrus, pepper, dark chocolate, followed by a lot of smoke There’s a lot going on. Opened it up some from even taking a sip of water after a few tastes. Less iodine than a typical Laphroaig.Usquabae Whisky Bar And Larder
