Tastes

No bottling/batch code. Pours light amber, nose of youthful doughy grain, grass, freshly-sawn oak and earthy spice. Young grassy malt upfront, buttery caramel and then into tannic oaky finish. Medium-weight, somewhat oily. A little oaky for me yet also a bit immature, but not a bad effort overall for an ASM.

No bottling/batch code. Light copper in color, mild oak spice and caramel apple nose with some doughy grain peeking through. Fair bit going on on the palate: some smokiness upfront, baking spice, young oily malt, fruity apple, and grassy/herbal bitterness that lingers on. Fairly light-bodied, a few drops of water brings out more fruit and the young malt, not that helpful. Interesting but ultimately gimimicky concept, blending 5 different whiskies together for one bottling. Not bad, but it doesn't quite cohere, and the malt isn't to my taste.

No bottling/batch code on bottle. Light copper in color, sharp nose of oak, peanut skin, perhaps some fruit. Fairly light-bodied, loads of caramel peanuts on the palate, some oak tannins and fruity notes, followed by vanilla on the finish. Why do people need whiskey with peanut butter flavoring when something decently tasty like this exists? Decent value and good mixer, though I prefer the EW black label, which is actually cheaper.

Label batch 0003. Deep amber in color, nose presents sharp pepper, oak spice and grassy/papery malt. On the palate is young malt, caramel, vanilla, bitter walnuts, and a kick of pepper towards the end. Fairly tannic upfront which mellows but lingers for a minute. While it's interesting to see a massive bourbon house take on malt in this way, much like many of the craft single malt products, this doesn't seem to have spent enough time aging to get it where it needs to be. Give it another year, perhaps?

No batch/bottling date on bottle. Pours a deep gold/light copper. Oaky baking spice and ethanol are first aromas, followed by youthful doughy malt, honey, grassy/floral notes, green apple. Drying oak spice on first sip followed by vanilla, grassy/doughy malt, flash of that green apple, then tootsie roll choc finish lingers pleasantly (likely from choc malt in the grist bill). Overall noticeably young but solid and keeps interest, might like to see some more age to get it past that immaturity though.
