Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2019 (edited January 19, 2019)I have a bottle of this in my collection, I just haven't opened the bottle yet. I decided to get a pour this sat night and really glad I did. At first nose it smelled good, got the caramel and a faint butter smell. At first sip I got caramel, raisin and in the background I got a faint butter taste. This bourbon is incredibly flavorful and smooth, I knew going in that it was a quality bourbon but my hats off to to the distiller. I believe Henderson did this one. This is an absolutely incredible bourbon. I kind of see Bourbon going in this direction as Master distillers push the envelope and try to come up with incredible tasting bourbons, and adjusting the mash bills and finishing barrels. I realize some people may think this bourbon cheats a little by aging in port casks, but there's no denying the exceptional taste, quality and smooth medium finish of this bourbon46.99 USD per BottleJohnny Black's Public House -
I picked up a bottle of this for only $22 bucks last week at Meijer. I've tried Four Rose's single barrel before and I was a fan instantly. I'd heard good things from this house so I wanted to give it a try. At first scent it's a very pleasant nose, caramel & vanilla instantly. At first sip it's very smooth, I get the vanilla and also a bit of honey. I was waiting for a little bit of alcohol burn, but there was absolutely none. The bourbon does come off light, but it's so darn pleasant on the palate who cares. At 2nd sip the bourbon comes off pretty straight forward , light with a very nice mouth. This is not a layered, complex bourbon. But you can tell the genius in this 80 proof bourbon by how pleasant it is to taste/sip. I could sip this one all day, job well done once again by Four Roses.21.99 USD per BottleMeijer

Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 12, 2018 (edited December 17, 2018)Went out to eat tonight at Johnny blacks public house in Waterford, MI. Ended up ordering a pour of Larceny Bourbon before dinner since they were out of eagle rare and angels envy. At first nose, heavy oak, some rubbing alcohol, along with faint hints of caramel and butterscotch. At first sip I got more burn and Oak spice than anything else, the oak and rubbing alcohol dominate the palate. The light taste of caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon, and pecan are faint but present and overall it comes out as smooth. Finish is quick to medium. For an $11 pour and the price per bottle, I was expecting so much more from this bourbon. I was left very disappointed as taste is completely average. I do believe heaven hill makes a quality product but this particular recipe is around an 80-81 point bourbon. Definitely taste before you buy.11.0 USD per Pour -
Was staying in San Diego for a week, stopped off at the liquor store and for under 12 bucks I figured go for it. Just in case I got a few 20 oz of dt Pepsi to mix it. Upon first sip I couldnt believe this was brandy, it tasted like an unrefined bottle of bottom shelf whiskey. After a few more sips I couldn't hack it, I had to chase it with the dt Pepsi. Its not smooth, tastes bad, fortunately this one has a quick finish as I couldn't bare anymore. If you're looking for deep, complex flavors, wrong house, this one's about as deep as a puddle. Glad it was only 12 bucks.11.99 USD per Bottle

Bought a bottle of this gem back in 2007. I've yet to open the bottle and it cost me $42.99 in 2007. I did get to try it a few years ago at my sister's wedding as my brother in law is a big whiskey fan as well. At first sip it was very heavy oak, I was hoping for more taste. Hints of vanilla and praline came to mind on the initial taste, It was very smooth. I enjoyed it more on the 2nd sip. Overall a very well done bourbon and 1 I'm glad is in my collection. I was expecting a bit more of something amazing, this was just very good.42.99 USD per Bottle

Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 10, 2018 (edited June 10, 2019)The original is so great, so this one had its work cut out for it. A bit more oak at first sip, still a very nice, smooth taste of vanilla and spice. Very smooth. Nice medium to long finish. I'm shocked this is only 90 points, great nose, taste and finish. I love the newer bourbon brands that push the envelope with ingredients mash bill, and dont copy what was done 150 years ago. Another truly stellar bourbon from Knob Creek. Its stamped as being specially made for Kroger in Cincinnati.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Traverse City Whiskey Co. XXX Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Michigan, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2018 (edited March 20, 2021)Incredibly smooth with a tasty, classic bourbon mouth. A great sipper, and one of the better small independent Bourbons I've ever had. I always keep a few bottles handy as this impresses all. I tried this a few years back on a wine tasting trip to Traverse City Mi. Upon drinking some outstanding wine I ended up at the traverse city whiskey co, to grab a quick bite to eat and try something besides wine. So glad I stopped by and tried this gem, the cherry whiskey is pretty tasty as well. I instantly had to buy a bottle. This bourbon is the king of smooth. Thankfully I only get a faint taste of rye spice in the initial sip, the rye does linger through each sip though. On initial sip I get a balanced mouth of caramel, toast, vanilla, honey and butterscotch. At first it ends with a long, smooth finish with some slight heat on the way down. After a few sips It ends with a medium length, layered, clean finish. I was simply amazed how well this bourbon was blended at this small whiskey co. Truly a beautiful representation of what a modern Bourbon is and should be.32.99 USD per Bottle -
