Dalmore King Alexander III
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 17, 2019 (edited April 6, 2019)Sugar covered red fruits on the nose with hints of maple. Flavor is caramel apple, a little biscuit, a touch of peat. It’s a little light and lacking richness. I actually prefer the Cigar Malt which shows more sherry and dark fruit on the palate. -
Bruichladdich Black Art 1989 02.2 Edition 21 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 21, 2019 (edited April 6, 2019)Nose is outstandingly powerful. Aromas of boysenberry, cake icing, and hazelnut. On the palate, it’s quite dry and lean. Peat is really light. It is very darkly fruited. Finish lingers nicely with what seems to mainly be salt. Really unique, delicious dram. -
Bruichladdich The Sixteens Bourbon Cask Aged
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 21, 2019Pastry-like nose lacks a little power and nuance, but does show some salt hints. Palate is mainly salt and ocean with a touch of golden fruit. Finish is quite long with lingering peat. This doesn’t do much for me. -
Balvenie Founder's Reserve 10 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)Incredibly powerful chocolate and raisin aroma. Flavor is unbelievable and the finish just goes on and on with baking chocolate and dried dark fruit. This whiskey seems to be better after a few months opened in the bottle. -
01/07/09 bottling. Nose shows wild turkey rust, spice, pistachio and oatmeal cookie. Mouthfeel is so oily. Flavor is incredible. This finishes so long with rust and spice. If there’s a weak point, it’s the initial entry on the palate, but this doesn’t even matter because it’s explodes on the mid and into the finish.

Widow Jane 10 Year Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed January 23, 2019 (edited December 22, 2020)Cinnamon spice highlights the fairly powerful nose. On the palate, you get a light touch of spice and limestone, pastry dough and toffee. Ultimately, it’s good, but it’s not complex , is light in mouthfeel and the finish is short. -
Aberlour 1997 20 Year The Distillery Reserve Collection
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 19, 2019 (edited September 9, 2024)I bought this at the distillery in October, 2018. Nose is absolutely stunning. Vanilla bean, pastry shop, chocolate, caramel and dark fruit. On the palate, this incredible whiskey is actually quite dry, but still juicy in dark fruit. The finish seems to last forever. I really can’t say enough about it.
