Tastes

Nose has sweet pastry. Palate has tobacco and butterscotch on the palate. Notes of dry leather as well. It is very nice.

Floral and honey aromas with a hint of coconut. It shows a complex dry maltiness all around the palate. Salt on the back end. Doesn't stand out for me, but has some compelling attributes.

Barrelled 1993, Bottled 2014. This has powerful honey, heather, caramel and baked apple aromas. Mainly shows caramel on the palate. Flavor gets deep and concentrated towards the finish, which lasts quite long with an apple cobbler, brown sugar-like finish with just a touch of salt. It is a great whiskey.

An older bottle (Jan 2nd, 2010.) Nose is light, but has some cookie dough, tropical fruit and very light peat notes. Flavor starts sweet. Golden fruits, doughy-like malt. Finishes with light peat. Overall, it's just not very rich.

I like this better than the 16. Has more depth and complexity. It’s a fresher and more powerful whiskey. Floral, citrus, sweet pastry and black pepper notes. Finish is consumed by salt and dries out fast. Fairly strong alcohol throughout though, unfortunately.

Fairly powerful nose reminiscent of raisins. Flavor is quite rich. Very dark fruited. Not a complex or layered whiskey but this is pretty good.

Hot cinnamon spice and faint pastry dough in the muted nose. Flavor is muted and sweet. Golden fruit gets flooded by light peat. Overall, it’s just lacking richness. Mouthfeel is really thin too. Don’t get the high score.

Nose is powerful. Has some French toast elements with maple. Flavor is sweet, but balanced. Begins with sticky golden fruit notes which end up being consumed by peat and salt. Finish is almost never ending. There is such an elegance and purity to these Nikka malts.

1970 bottling, Stitzel-Weller. Incredible mocha and caramel aroma is intoxicating. Flavor is ridiculously long and layered. It is an absolute caramel bomb. This tastes like a modern, beastly bourbon.

Mini from the 50’s. Spice and caramel on the nose is light. This is a caramel bomb on the palate. Has great finesse and balance. Then it dries out on the finish with leather notes. Awesome.
