GlenDronach Parliament 21 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 12, 2019 (edited August 31, 2019)Salty and briny, especially for a Glendronach. Was expecting a sherry bomb, which this is not. As it stands, I don’t understand what this Malt is trying to be. It doesn’t seem to be in the style of their younger expressions. I think it should be. It’s still a good, elegant scotch but doesn’t distinguish itself from hundreds of others in this style. I want more juicy fruit and chocolate in an expression like this. -
Old Pulteney 17 Year
Single Malt — HIghlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 12, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)Nose is light. Shows a touch of peat and salt, with a hint of caramel. Flavor shows great range and depth. Intriguing chocolate and butterscotch notes which eventually get swallowed up by salt. Salt consumes the finish, which lingers very nicely. Overall, an excellent scotch. -
Wild Turkey 101 12 Year (Cheesy Gold Foil)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 11, 2019 (edited June 15, 2023)One of the best bourbons ever is the Wild Turkey 12 Year, which was produced from the mid 80’s until the early 90’s, mainly for the Japanese market. It is a stunning whiskey with an incredible oily mouthfeel and the longest finish. It is in perfect balance. -
Booker's 30th Anniversary Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 28, 2019 (edited April 27, 2024)Comparing this side by side with Barrell 15 and George T Stagg. Nose is more muted, but still reminiscent of peanut shells, salt and all. Flavor is incredible. Caramel just gushes throughout. Flavor is more doughy in comparison to the others. Peanut brittle and honeyed fruit notes. Incredible intense and rich. -
Barrell Craft Spirits Gray Label Bourbon 15 Year (2018 Release)
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 28, 2019 (edited August 23, 2020)Nose is complex and powerful with hot cinnamon like spice and singed dark toffee. Flavor is immense. Starts with a powerful caramel rush that continues until the finish. On the end, light notes of mocha and cocoa bean develop, along with medium spice. Finishes quite dry with lingering spice. This is an intense powerful whiskey.
