3cL Sample from Fine Drams. 45.7 abv Nose: wet cereal, sweet menthol, light char. Palate: Mild baking spice, but very fresh. Sweet caramel. Pretty light rye. Some oak. Creamy candycorn. Finish: Longer and more of the rye. Still milder than I expected. It is OK. Not going out of my way to get a bottle, though.4.82 EUR per Pour

Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 10, 2018 (edited December 26, 2018)Hits above weight. I love the value of this dram. Smoke and minerals/soy/olives. One of the best sub-$100 bottles out there. -
Balvenie Peat Week 14 Year (2002 Edition)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 10, 2018 (edited January 27, 2019)Scotchtoberfest take home. This is an Old Fashioned in a bottle. Syrupy sweetness and smoke. Love it as-is from a flask. Nose is peat and floral with a bit of medicinal benzene that rounds into butterscotch. First sip is smoke and twang. Orange honey? No real burn at 48.5 abv. Medium long finish of hot vanilla smoke. I like this a lot. MSRP is a bit high, but a lovely dram when someone else is paying. -
St. George Pear Brandy
Eau-de-Vie — California, USA
Reviewed December 9, 2018 (edited October 29, 2020)Fresh intense pear on the nose with barely any heat. Extremely clean and rich taste; seems to have that juicy note you get near the pit. Very cocktail friendly & a household favorite.37.99 USD per Bottle -
Bought for a particular cocktail, but I've been using it in several and occasionally, to sip. I wouldn't know about the corn without being told, but this is still quite nice. Nice to drink neat and plays well in cocktails if I forget the price. Little smoke on the nose; mostly agave, wet wood, and some sharpness. Great taste and mouthfeel. Silky. Vegetal. Very sweet. Lingering but subtle smoke and light/inoffensive medicinal on the very long finish .58.0 USD per Bottle

Mezcal Alipús San Miguel de Sola
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed April 29, 2018 (edited December 26, 2018)Bottle from Alchemy's Agave Club. Really delightful. Phenol, alcohol and old agave on the nose. Well-rounded in the mouth. Bright and sweet, but with some iodine. Finishes long and peppery. I'm constantly reaching for this bottle and will miss it when it is done. -
Mezcal El Silencio Espadín
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed April 29, 2018 (edited December 26, 2018)Great price, but this was kind of disappointing. Clean smoke on the nose. Maybe citrus/prickly pear notes, but straight forward. Sip is agave sweetness and clay; much less smoke than expected or wanted. A bit of funk on the finish, but mostly this just falls flat. Not great for sipping straight & not assertive enough for most cocktails.27.99 USD per Bottle
