Regions of Scotland Whisky Tasting Set for Virtual Scotchtoberfest Nose: cereal, a bit astringent Palate: Dried or spiced fruit. earthy. Seaweed. Toast and subtle smoke and more subtle iodine. Finish: Medium length. A pleasant surprise. This is well-balanced and drinkable. I wish it were less expensive, but it is nice.

Regions of Scotland Whisky Tasting Set for Virtual Scotchtoberfest Nose: Honey, cream, malt Palate: Mellow, honey-sweet, grain, bourbony Finish: Brief. Some oak, but still mostly barley. I'm amused by, but do not catch the descriptors of hoisin, hawaiin punch. If affordable, might be a decent cocktail scotch.

Purchased as a replacement for Amer Picon/Amer Boudreau. Lovely dark color. Nose: Cooked oranges. Acetone Palate: SUGAR. Candied orange. Pretty one note. Oily/thick. Want more bitterness. Some salt in there. Finish. Short. Sweet. Finally a bit of bitter orange. Some spice as I continue to sip. It is a nice mild amaro that is both heavy on citrus and sweet. Glad for the proof. I will probably buy this again and it will make for good cocktail use, but I remember Jamie Boudreau's recipe being superior to this.35.99 USD per Bottle

Recommended to me as the best affordable blended scotch for cocktails. Price is certainly great, but this was kind of a bummer. Nose: Sweet fruit, sharp alcohol Palate: SWEET. Slick. Toffee. Butterscotch. Somewhat fruity. Not enough smoke or character. Finish: Sweet (still); some spices and alcohol, but only whisps of smoke. Verdict: Sugar bomb. Not enough spice or smoke. Monkey Shoulder is a better buy. $15 was clearance. I think bottles that are less than 2x the cost deliver far more than 2x the experience. I want to like this so bad. Might be OK in cocktails.14.99 USD per Bottle

Price estimated. Purchased from Alchemy. Nose: Mild agave. Grassy. Palate: Short and subtle. Lime zest. Cream Finish: Medium. Peppery. Verdict: Simple, straight forward. Makes good cocktails. Not horribly expensive, but I think I may prefer the Espolon Blanco for the flavor & it absolutely kills it on value, as it is sometimes half the price.35.0 USD per Bottle

Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 7, 2019 (edited November 16, 2019)Came recommended as one of the best value reposados, particularly for cocktail use. Definitely lives up to that. It is a good value bottle. It is attractive, though the screw top is a bit cheesy once you encounter it. Otherwise, it is a real solid performer. Nose: Agave. Fruit. Spicy wood. Palate: Real juicy fresh fruit. Sweet. Pear. Oak. Vanilla. Finish: Really long. Fruit, flamed orange peel. Brine. Verdict: yup: another winner. Works neat. Shines in cocktails. Will buy again.21.99 USD per Bottle -
Wow. This is weirder than I was expecting. Pretty color, but the taste was unexpected. Nose: bright apple skin, vanilla, caramel Palate: Cooked apple throughout, but comes on much stronger on wood. First oak..then kind of spicy rye..then smoke. Finish: Apple cider and smoke. Lingering. Verdict: I prefer the Laird's single barrel at this price point and for the fuller apple flavor, but this is a lovely novel little sipper. Might not get again, but is fun this time.42.99 USD per Bottle

Christian Brothers Sacred Bond Brandy
American Brandy — California, USA
Reviewed September 7, 2019 (edited October 8, 2020)At $16/bottle, this may be destined to become my cocktail brandy of choice. Nose: Vanilla, wood, alcohol, some cooked fruit or baking spices are buried. Palate: Custard Finish: Heat, some spiced fruit, smoke Verdict: This is surprisingly sippable for such an inexpensive bottle. Nothing particularly interesting and low on the fruit, but I'd serve this to others. It will definitely shine in cocktails and the sweet aged wood noes and proof will serve it well. Really happy with this one.15.99 USD per Bottle -
Not enough Spanish brandy on this site. It is often a sugar bomb. This Lepanto Oloroso Viejo is, decidedly, not that. 12 yrs in Tio Pepe Fino Sherry; 3 yr in ex-Oloroso Apóstoles & Matusalém sherry. Lovely mahogany in the bottle and nut-brown in the glass Nose: Clean vanilla; some perfume. Palate: Musty. Dried raisins & figs, light toasted nuts. Some sweetness, but much more rich than I expected. Finish: Clovey alcohol. Lingering. Verdict: Nice sipper. Excited to pair it with spanish jamon and to contrast it with undistilled Tio Pepe sherry. Might not get again, but is fun this time.52.99 USD per Bottle
