Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 30, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Vanilla, oak, butterscotch and cherries on the nose. The palate is spicy with dominant charred oak, chocolate, and caramel notes. The finish has legs and echoes the gourmand chocolate caramels and dried cherries. -
Complex nose brings luxardo cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon red hots, cedar wood and dill pickle. The palate is surprisingly smooth; full and spicy with a patient draw. Rum raisin and rich tobacco flood the low end while accents of barrels spices fill in the mids and black cherry over the top. The finish is dense and the richness of the dried fruit and tobacco runs long. Very delicious, sophisticated pour.

Fruity nose brings banana, cherry, honey and maple notes to the forefront. The palate is very approachable and balances fruit, toast and sweet spice notes, specifically toasted oak, black cherry, caramel, leather, all spice, chocolate and hazelnut. The finish has great length and leans towards the barrel notes layered with a softer sweet caramel. Nice value bottle, for sure.

Candied nuts and spice on the nose with moderate heat and subtle menthol. The palate is bright and spicy when neat, echoing more nuttiness and adding notes of leather, charred oak and pitted fruits. Definitely smooths out and becomes full bodied with a drop of water. Not as sweet as advertised, which is fine by me. The finish is fairly mellow and not terribly diverse, but tasty in its own right.
