Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2016 (edited December 17, 2016)Campfire nose with subtle sweetness, smoke and toasted marshmallows. Some dried fruit and banana is also present in the aroma. The palate brings sweet heat, brown sugar, molases, baking spice and a nutty finish. The finish is medium length and layers in raisin and dried fruit for a sweet and salty trail mix feel. Great value bottle. -
High West Double Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed November 23, 2016 (edited November 27, 2016)Evergreen mint, menthol and herbs on the nose. The palate is clean and crisp with many of the aromatic characters represented with mint, creme de menthe, anise, clove and spice. The finish lasts and brings in additional layers of dried fruit, toast, and herbs. If you are looking for a non traditional rye with more gin-like qualities, this may be your pour. -
Masterson's Straight Rye Whiskey 10 Year
Rye — Canada
Reviewed November 23, 2016 (edited December 17, 2016)Funky banana, dried fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and toffee on the nose. The palate is sophisticated with charred wood, leather and earthy notes. With a little water it develops into smokey spice and burnt orange peel which lingers long and hard on the finish. The finish resolves with calmer caramel and toffee notes, giving you a queue for your next sip. It's a quality bottle, but a little too leather-centric for my tastes.
