Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2019 RC6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited December 31, 2019)This is a dessert pour. I get sweet notes of creme brûlée’s/Flan in the nose and on the tongue. This is a Bourbon that many would enjoy. -
High West Bourye (2019 Release)
Blended American Whiskey — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited December 25, 2019)This is a creamy, slightly sweet and well rounded whiskey. It is so inoffensive that a new whiskey venturer could try it and enjoy. In the world of Bou-Rye I prefer Wild Turkey Forgiven but alas they don’t make anymore. -
Jefferson's Reserve Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finish
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019Sweet with a very round mouthfeel and fresh berry & brown sugar sweetness. It is nice but not as good as the Yellowstone wine barrel finish. -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Rye
Rye — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed December 15, 2019 (edited December 25, 2020)This is a definite Rye in character and also lends a firm handshake to it at 104 proof. It has a greater viscosity & complexity over the 6 year RR Rye. This still has the fresh herbal and mint nots but also amps up the peppery & Christmas baking spices. This is another fine all purpose Rye and the price is so competitive. -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed 112.8 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2019 (edited February 27, 2021)Preferred this even over the recent 116.8 offering. This is a classic Bourbon with plenty of spice, vanilla, caramel and heat. This baby is nice neat or with an ice chip or really amps up a cocktail. Such a great bottle of higher proof Bourbon with lots of fire character As others have said, this offering is gone so if you see on the shelf you do not think or ponder, you simply buy it. -
Baker's Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 15, 2019 (edited January 9, 2020)This is a mighty tasty Bourbon and at 107 proof it is not a sleeper. It has a sweet, vanilla nose but flavor brings some pepper, cinnamon and heat with it. It’s a really good dram but always felt it was priced high. Until I found it for $43. Then they made it a single barrel? Crazy -
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Decades
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 27, 2019 (edited November 9, 2019)This is so darn good. The aroma on this dram steals the show and brings the distinct presence of aged whiskey through perfumed notes of antique wood and some leather. Unmistakable vanilla, caramel and baking spice are also present in the nose that are repeated in the flavors with adequate heat, barrel spice and an amazing finish. -
Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye (Discontinued)
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed October 27, 2019 (edited December 26, 2019)This isn’t bad, it’s just quite unique. Due to the black strap rum finish this is too sweet with notes of maple syrup & molasses. I have relegated this too a pseudo-dark and stormy. Once gone I will revert to Dark Rum itself for that purpose.
