Lagavulin Offerman Edition Guinness Cask Finish
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 2, 2021 (edited December 16, 2021)After swearing off Peated Malts for so long and Lagavulin 16 finally swayed me this became my next goal. Aroma- Is peat smoke, smoked meat and some minor roasted grain. Flavor- is layered with caramel and cream but definitely brings the smoke and roasted grain/coffee in mid to end palate. Mouthfeel- Butter like 16 but a bit thinner. Finish- Punches first and moderately lingers. -
Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 2, 2021 (edited December 18, 2021)After swearing off Peated Malts for so long this is the one that swayed me. Aroma- Is noticeably peat but the malty grain note still comes through. Flavor- is layered and surprisingly smoke does not overpower but it is there with caramel, cream and smoke does come back in end palate. Mouthfeel- Butter Finish- moderately lingers. -
Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 24, 2021 (edited March 18, 2021)This has such a nose and palate of fruit & honey. This is absolutely delicious and may become a household staple for as long as it’s readily available. -
Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2021 (edited January 27, 2021)So this definitely drinks hotter than the 96.2 would lead you to expect. There is somewhat of a bright, back tongue spice, not to it and it drinks perhaps a bit young. It is good but not great and not worth the price I have seen on the shelf. -
Bradshaw Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 11, 2021 (edited August 14, 2021)I was pleasantly surprised with this celebrity Bourbon. This isn’t just a novelty, it’s a decent proof at a fair price that drinks easy. I found the nose to have some dark fruit aroma, perhaps even plum. The flavor brings plenty of vanilla with with some barrel & baking spice in the finish. There is only minimal heat at the end and it does not drink like a 100+ proof. -
Oban Little Bay
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 1, 2020 (edited December 18, 2020)So I know this fetches a higher expert rating than the 14yr but it just doesn’t compare for me. Though both are listed as Peated neither carries a heavy peat note in aroma or flavor. This dram missed me first in the nose but really lost me in its thin body. The flavor is great and the finish is nice but I just wanted more.
