84 rating??? The reviewer must not be used to barrel strength whiskey. This is sweet and spicy. The nose gets sweeter as it opens up. The palate has a great mouthfeel with some oily-ness. Very rich but not overly complex. The finish is one of the best and longest I ever had in a rye or any whiskey. Exceptional!

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Tasters' Selection Barrel Proof Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 5, 2021 (edited July 6, 2021)Incredible nose on this with spice, caramel, orange zest, fruit notes, and vanilla. It's mouth coating with a good bit of heat. Sweet, molasses, spicy. Finish is long as the spice gradually fades. For those who enjoy high proof whiskies, it's a definite recommend. -
Jameson Bow Street 18 Year Cask Strength (Batch Two)
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed June 18, 2021 (edited June 21, 2021)On the neck pour, this 18 year old packs a punch at 110.2 proof. Different than any other iteration from this distillery. Full bodied with a flavor blast of white raisins, carmel, sugar cookies, and floral notes. The finish is medium/long. This is a potent Irish flavor bomb. I think the heat will die down once it opens up a bit. -
Kura The Whisky Pure Malt Japanese Rum Cask Finish
Blended Malt — Okinawa , Japan
Reviewed April 4, 2021 (edited May 6, 2022)This was a surprise to me. Never heard of it before. Picked one up from the Mitswa in NJ. The nose was very pleasant with light plumb, tropical fruits, sweet nectar, and a little maltiness. The palate is sweet with mild taste of nose elements. The finish is medium length with a bit of heat and mild rum flavor. There is the slightest background of smoke. Pairs well with Japanese food. Drank with shabu shabu tonight. It was surprisingly good. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye (2020 Special Release)
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 22, 2021 (edited May 30, 2022)Great nose with vanilla and spice. Palate is nice but certainly not as rich as a rabbit hole founders. For the price, it would be a buy for sure. Too bad it's all gone. Overall nice dram from JD. -
Augusta Buckner's 13 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 14, 2021 (edited October 4, 2023)Great nose of sweet vanilla, baking spice, and caramel. The palate is reminiscent of GTS-sweet, rich, fruity, subtle and smooth oak. Long finish that’s a bit dry with cacao, chocolate covered cherries, spice, and molasses. Not cheap at $200 but definitely worth having on your shelf! Addendum: I’ve read some of the lower rates reviews and understand where they are coming from on the initial palate. This one needs to open up for at least 15-20 minutes. The palate intensifies exponentially after this and you will get a flavor explosion in your mouth that is hard to handle! Trust me-try it after it opens up. It’s amazing! -
The nose has caramel, vanilla, and sour fruit with a hint of spicy cologne. Tastes just like it smells. I get a the sour fruit balanced with caramel, vanilla, and spice. Hint of juicy fruit gum? Finish is long but the fruit and vanilla dissipate first. The spice lingers fading into coffee/dark chocolate. This is followed by a nice Kentucky hug. Drinking a bottle that has opened up awhile. Very nice. Worth a splurge to experience this. Cheers!
