Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)Not sure why I always passed this one up. I need to stop reading others reviews so much on FB whiskey groups. I’m a huge Elijah Craig fan and this has a very similar profile but much smoother. I’m in love. And for the price of this bourbon being in my wheelhouse of under $30 I’m a happy camper. During an SAP transition at work this is exactly what I needed to take the suicidal edge off the end of the work day. 8/7/20 Update - 3/25/22 This is still one hell of a shelf wheater for the price. I can honestly say this is pretty damn good for the $27 it’s offered at. -
Auchentoshan American Oak
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 2, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)As another reviewer mentioned this is simple and sweet. Wasn’t sure how this was going to be since it was clearance for $27 but I’m pretty impressed. Very nice delicate flavors. Price was nice for a single malt also.27.0 USD per Bottle -
This stuff is absolute garbage without barrel aging. To the guy who said “those who give it a crappy score don’t like high proof or whiskey at all” is a dope. This stuff is meant to be aged and barreled not drank the way it is sold. I purchased this to experiment with charred oak staves and will update after aging process is complete. Bottom line, don’t buy this if you think you’re buying a BT product that will taste good because it has their name on the bottle because you will not enjoy this straight.14.0 USD per Bottle

Maker's Mark Private Select Bourbon

These guys have the best picks and really know what they are doing over there. This pour is sweet up front with just a hint of heat going down. 111.1 drinks more like 90-94%. Great drink overall. Glad I finally cracked this one open.70.0 USD per BottleGaspars Liquor Shoppe -
Found this one at a Walmart on clearance for $32. Better than the regular $55 I've seen when not on sale/clearanced. Bought two bottles just based on the cost alone. I'm not a huge Beam fan but I've only had a few examples and none of the "higher end" ones. The nose on this is sweet sugary, baked sugar cookies, vanilla, honey? Not what I expected from a Beam. I was expecting more of a Knob Creek smell. My first sip is exactly that, Knob Creek but not as fiery as the 120 proof they offer. I'm really liking this and from the reviews left on Distiller I was afraid this was going to be really hot. Maybe I got a good one but this isn't hot at all, pretty smooth actually. One small cube and this really opens up the sweetness. I'd like to try this side by side with a Booker's and Knob Creek and see if I get the same tasting notes. Overall I like this and for the price I paid i'd buy it again but the Baker's line has changed and the small batch expression is no longer available. It was rebranded as single barrel and the bottle shape changed. For $35 I really like this but for $55 I wouldn't purchase again. 4/21/21 Just found this at my local Walmart for their clearance again this year. This time it was $21 dollars a bottle!! I bought a few!! Score!!32.0 USD per Bottle

Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 30, 2020 (edited April 26, 2022)**Alert** Biased review I received this as a gift from a friend and held on to it for a couple months until my birthday came around (today). I love Elijah Craig so he surprised me with this one. Thanks Ron! So upon opening this one I was reminded of the typical Elijah Craig scent. If you've ever smelled EC then you know what I'm talking about. Neck pour was pure Elijah but with all of the edges rounded out. I get sweet vanilla & toffee notes. Mmmm so good. The proof on this makes it so easy to drink & I've been really enjoying the lower proof bourbons lately as they exhibit more of their character than the high proof stuff. (of course I just picked up the A120 ECBP which is 68.6 proof). So the question is...… "is it worth the $130 price tag?" This is easy to answer for me because I don't like paying more than $40-50 for anything so no it's not for the average consumer. But, and this is a big BUT in this case I would have paid for it if I saw it on a shelf for $130. Why you ask? Well because Elijah Craig is my favorite bourbon and I really, really like their products. With the current trend of the secondary market and scumbags flipping bottles for profit I'm sure I'll never see one of these again or for that matter own another because i'll never pay more than MSRP. The current market is a sad situation but in another 10 years I suspect it will be completely different. Maybe one day again we'll be able to find good product on the shelves easily? Michter's US*1 American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed April 22, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)First time tasting any Michter's products neat. I found a couple bottles of this at local grocer with dates from 2015 & 2016 so I grabbed them. I know the juice inside doesn't age any more than when taken from the barrel but for some unknown reason I feel like finding older stuff that sits on the shelf is a "find". So with that out of the way let's get on to the review. Nosing this one doesn't give much of a preview of what you're about to taste. The nose is a standard sweet bourbon smell much like an Evan Williams Single Barrel or a Four Roses Small Batch. Nothing special. First sip is a whole different story. There's a blast of flavors including vanilla, honey, & toffee all at once. I love the sweetness this one has compared to many other whiskeys I've tasted. I'm a fan. Now the one thing this has going for me that I really like is the fact that it is only 80 proof so I don't need to dilute it or sip it and feel like my mouth is being singed on fire. The finish is smooth especially since it's only an 80 proofer and it lingers a little while, not long but enough to remind you how special it is. I'm really glad I bought this one after looking at it for months. The one complaint I have is the price it sells at. The $45 price tag seems a bit high for the proof but to justify the price it is a smooth fellow that goes down easy and really has some great flavors going on. Looking forward to exploring more of the Michters line after trying this one out. 4-22-2043.0 USD per Bottle -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 7, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)Shhhhhh don’t tell anyone! This is one of my all time favorites and is such a great value at $45 compared to some other BP’s for much more money. I’ve been really been loving the WT offerings lately. Yes, they are classics that have been around forever but I always looked past them. 101, KS, and now RB. Each of them being the same mashbill but being sooo good makes me a happy camper knowing they can be found on the shelf at anytime. 3/7/2045.0 USD per Bottle
