Method and Madness Single Pot Still Finished in Chestnut Casks
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed August 6, 2022 (edited February 8, 2023)It’s a very nice whiskey. But I am a bit Old School when it comes to Irish whiskey. It’s a bit to sweet for me and lacks the complexity of Redbreast 12 cask strength or even Writers Tears double oak. I gave it 4 stars because it is good and certainly will please the ‘modern’ drinker. But once this bottle is done I doubt I’d buy another - but again it’s just me. It is a terrific whiskey- just too sweet for me. EDIT: several months later. Dropping it to 3. Hasn’t grown on me. Much to sweet. Cloyingly sweet 2ND EDIT... its now been several months since my last edit and things have changed. over time, opened bottles and palates change.. I have since knocked off this bottle and bought another. it was now much more complex and less sweet. this is a good example of the beauty of whiskey and never to pour a bottle down the drain. I opened my second bottle and will let it sit capped on my shelf for a few months.... I am now changing my rating back to it's original 4. -
Herradura Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 24, 2022 (edited April 29, 2023)I’m a whiskey first, then peated scotch and finally a bourbon drinker - but I recently bought a bottle of Herradura Anejo tequila and fell in love with it - even though it is 40%. -
Jack Daniel's Bonded Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 16, 2022 (edited July 12, 2022)I look at my vast collection of scotches and bourbons and sigh. All that money spent - and the best tasting whiskey are the $33 bottles of Jack Bonded I’ve been buying this past month. -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 13, 2022 (edited June 12, 2022)Nose: on my face. Palate: not cleft. Finish: I’m finishing. Stop yelling. That all being said - after you’re done tasting all your whiskey finished in everything from the blood of chihuahuas to oak casks charred from nuclear waste - you will return to the beauty of this bourbon and once again realize that what you’ve been searching for was right there on your shelf. -
Kentucky bourbon - Japanese Blender. NOSE: egg rolls and French fries. PALATE: mouthfeel thick like egg fu young gravy. Hint of boiled (not grilled) hot dogs. Is that chop suey popping up? FINISH: medium. Almond and fortune cookies. Ding Dongs. All kidding aside. It’s spicy and sweet (not sweet and sour!). It’s very good. I would keep it neat.
