Tastes

Spicy with not much sweetness (probably from the 95/5 mashbill). A bit of a bummer as I was excited about this brand, but in a blind tasting it came in 3rd of 3 up against Alberta Premium and Templeton 6 year).

A little medicinal cherry on the nose with just a hint of baking spice. Good warmth throughout and a solid finish.

Mike is actually 65.1% ABV (130.2 proof) but drinks under that proof point. The nose is full of honey and maybe graham cracker with just a hint of cinnamon and some nuttiness. The palate follows suit with the nose and finish is loooooooong. My first Ironroot, and I’m intrigued by their line up now. This was an excellent pick from Bethany Discount Liquor on Allen, TX.

Smoke, leather, and tobacco on the nose. It’s younger age really shows on the palate with a lot of ethanol and not much of the fruity notes that typically shine in wheaters. This had a lot of heat on the finish, but the finish did have some length to it, which was nice.

Oak and sweet on the nose with a hint of caramelized sugar. Palate is brown sugar and vanilla with a little oak. Finish is just the right length.

Not as good as I remember it being the first time I had it. My palate has likely just evolved over time. Oak and caramel on the nose. Light, creamy vanilla on the palate. Fleeting, but enjoyable finish. All in all, probably not with the hype/hunt, but fine at MSRP.

Lots of caramel and sweetness on this one. Very yummy and drinks without a ton of ethanol burn despite its proof.

Lots of oak and dried fruit on the nose. Orange peel and leather on the palate. And the finish is brief but enjoyable. All around solid.

Vanilla and spice on the nose. Palate is fruit on the front with a nice baking spice on the back end. Good warmth throughout and the finish lasts longer than it seems like it should. Incredible value rye whiskey.

Honey and vanilla on the nose. Sweet, floral, and fruity on the palate. Finish is short-lived, but enjoyable. Very easy drinking bourbon.
