McClelland's Single Malt Islay
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed May 22, 2018 (edited December 6, 2019)Definitely a starter Islay. Bit thin and salty. Lacking some of the rich peaty warmth for which the style is known. Not a bad whiskey for the price, but it does little to stand out from the competition. -
This gin possesses such great flavor and mouthfeel that it’s almost worth sipping neat. The fresh juniper is explosive, balanced nicely by the citrus notes. While it might not be perfectly suited to every cocktail style, this gin is interesting enough to warrant a buy and subsequent experimentation.

Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 22, 2018 (edited June 15, 2018)Not the most complex bourbon out there, but its flavor profile is well-suited to cocktails, especially the old fashioned and its many variations. Hard to beat at the under 30 USD price point.
