Tomatin 12 Year Bourbon & Sherry Casks
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 22, 2020 (edited June 23, 2020)Sweet, honey and brown sugar, but also some sour notes, like white grapes. More spicy on the palate, some bitter notes come through on the finish. Good value for money. An enjoyable but non-complex malt. -
Dewar's 12 Year The Ancestor (Discontinued)
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed February 20, 2020 (edited June 23, 2020)Salty caramel, vanilla and honey sweetness, a bit of alcohol burn, some white pepper. Not very complex, but neither bad for an inexpensive blended scotch. -
Craigellachie 13 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 17, 2020 (edited October 2, 2020)Sweetness of sultanas and canned pineapple. Vanilla. Wet wood notes. Spicy. Black pepper. Some smoke. Creamy. Some sulphury notes also, but not unpleasant. Dark chocolate candied orange peel. Oak barrel aged grappa. Some caramel on the finish. Not smooth but really interesting. So many layers of flavors and somehow easier to identify than in some other malts. Complex and characterful. -
Glenlivet Triple Cask Matured Distiller's Reserve

Reviewed February 7, 2020Smooth but not very complex flavors. Some caramel sweetness, fresh and fruity nose, especially ripe pear, nutty, a medium to short finish. -
Balvenie Peated Triple Cask 14 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2020 (edited July 11, 2020)The peat is evident immediately. Would never guess this is Balvenie in a blind tasting. But then the honeylike sweetness comes through. Dark raisins. Some hints of orange peel. Really nice layered whisky. Also spicy on the back of the palate. Peppery. More peat, warm and very long finish. Perfect late night sipping dram! -
Bunnahabhain 10Y Manzanilla
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited January 15, 2022)Buckwheat honey, dark raisins, dried apricots. Adding water brings out more sweetness. More complex than expected from a 10y old. -
Bruichladdich Black Art 1992 05.1 Edition 24 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited January 15, 2022)Quite fruity nose: cherry, dates, figs, faint tropical fruit, some honey sweetness. On the palate, the sweetness quickly turns to dry and woody, oaky flavors appear. Loved it!
