Benriach The Smoky Twelve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 4, 2022 (edited March 19, 2022)This is like enjoying strawberry jam and coddled cream scones by a warm peaty fire. The nose is sweet with strawberries. The palate has jam and peat. And the finish kicks in with warm peat smoke. Delicious! -
Pale golden color. The nose reminds me of hay spread around an orchard… with more apples as it warms. The palate is sweet, stewed apples and pears in cinnamon and brown sugar, with a fresh cracked black pepper finish that is chili spicy. The whiskey tastes delicious! I’m often put off by light colored hay smelling whiskies, but this is exceptionally yummy!

Glenfiddich Fire & Cane
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 4, 2021 (edited January 15, 2022)Smoked candied bananas with cinnamon on the nose. Sweet and tart on the palate. The finish lingers and brings out rich spice and wisps smoke. A yummy whiskey to finish off the day. The tart palate was a bit unexpected. -
The whiskey is the color of amber. Smoked salted taffy on the nose, the whiskey is peppery like candied chilies on the palate… slowly warming to reveal tart lemons. The finish is a warming black pepper that’s medium in length. Adding some water brings out more vanilla and caramel on the nose and lemon and apples on the palate while mellowing the chillies. The finish remains a warm black pepper. It’s not a bad dram… I wasn’t expecting so many hot spice flavors. I think I still prefer an Ardbeg 10 or Bowmore 12.
