Not overly complex but it does what it does exceptionally well. It's like drinking liquid whoppers. Basically a chocolate malt bomb. Smells like delicious malted nougat. Great thick oily mouth feel too. Finish is more of the same, medium short, with a slight astringent burn on the first few sips which fades as you go leaving oak dipped in chocolate as it goes out. If this stuff wasn't $81 a bottle I'd be happy to drink it all the time. It's great.

Nose is so sweet it's amazing. Sents of sweet caramel and burnt sugar along with an underlying leather. Vanilla as well. Palet is sweet again with vanilla and gingerbread cookies and baking spices. Nice medium long finish. It gets dogged on to some degree but it is honestly great for $50. Very similar qualities to Pappy 15 as well which makes sense given it's half of poor man's Pappy. So glad I'm in an area where we can get this often.

T.W. Samuels Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2021 (edited July 24, 2024)Got this KY only handle on our Bourbon Trail trip as a recommendation at Total Wine. For $20.99 this is a total winner. Not overly complex but has a sweet vanilla nose with a hint of caramel and oak. Sweet on the palet with a medium mouth feel gives way to barrel char and corn. Fairly short finish with a tiny bit of lingering spice. Usually bargain bourbon comes with quite a bit of ethanol kick on the back end but this glides smoothly and ends nicely. What a great bourbon for the money. If I could get this in OH it would easily be an every day sipper. Next trip I'm getting a bunch of these. -

Sagamore Spirit 'Sagamore Reserve' Double Oak Rye (2017 Limited Edition Release)
Rye — (bottled in) Maryland, USA
Reviewed May 16, 2021Nose has a very sweet aroma and smells like fruit pie with butter crust. Vanilla and baking spices and cinnamon. It has a huge nose. Palet is flowery and herbal and sweet with oak and more baking spices. It's finsh is reported to be short by some and long by others, but I can confirm it's long. Tons of rye spice and oak and sweet that goes on forever. Love this stuff.
