Tastes

Second rice whisky that I’ve tried and I’ve enjoyed both. Smooth and sweet, almost hit me as a butterscotch flavor initially. Vanilla and sherry more evident upon further sips with fruit/spice finish. Definitely enjoyable.

Decent offering. Smooth, balanced, nice flavors, and easy to drink. But I wouldn’t pay $100 for a bottle.

Tasted very much like a typical scotch to me, which made sense when I looked at the details and saw it was a Scottish/Japanese blend. Unlike other Japanese whiskys that I’ve tried and enjoyed more. A fair bit of oak present from the bourbon barrels, and almond. Not something I would likely purchase, but not unpleasant.

PEAT. SMOKE. I imagine those are supposed to be the dominant flavors, and it delivers. Personally, can’t much distinguish it from the Kilchoman Sanaig that is also part of the same tasting box, but that’s just me.

Spice tree, indeed. A lot going on with this one. Spicy up front, vanilla/sweet, then oak/clove in the finish. Easy to drink neat. Not sure I’d go out of my way to buy it, but definitely memorable and enjoyable, and worth picking up if I saw a good deal.

SMOKE. PEAT. This is my first peated scotch, so those are the dominant tasting notes standing out to me by far. Not sure the peated thing is my jam, but I don’t hate it. Will be trying more.

The malt/chocolate are most evident in my taster. A bit of a bite, and the 100 proof is apparent. Part of a tasting set, and probably wouldn’t buy a full bottle, but it’s decent.

My first Japanese Whisky. Very smooth and sweet with a touch of smoke in the finish. Love it and looking forward to the next glass!
