Tastes

One of my first scotches, and have really enjoyed it. Come to find that I don’t enjoy the peated scotches, so this has been a pleasant Islay alternative. Very crisp and refreshing. Bottle is almost done and I already have my next unpeated Bruichladdich lined up (Barley 2011). But I will be revisiting the Laddie again in the future. The distiller has a great story, as well.

Hard to beat if you can find it at MSRP. A solid everyday bourbon - smooth, sweet, balanced, and popular for a reason. Just don’t go nuts paying absurd prices for it.

Smooth and sweet. Chocolate, but not in the same way that I get with the Nikka Coffey Malt, which is another favorite of mine. Both are solid after dinner whiskeys.

A solid, affordable rye to enjoy neat. Plenty of rye spice, cinnamon, a bit of sweetness, and long finish.

Pairs perfectly with pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The official whiskey of breakfast! ....No, please don’t drink whiskey with breakfast. In all seriousness, this is spicy, very sweet, complex, and wonderful. Unique and highly recommended (but please, not for breakfast).

Spicy, more smoky than I expected. Sounds like it’s made with peated barley, so that makes sense. Not crazy about it.

Vanilla, sherry... smooth and delicious. Solid Irish whiskey. Easily a repeat purchase.

Enjoying the Japanese rice whiskies. Sweet, with a very distinct taste that I haven’t picked up in any other style of whisky. Worth trying if you like smooth/sweet whisky.

Balance of flavors. Initially the vanilla/caramel was more noticeable. Later sips, the toasted/smokey notes were more evident. Smooth and easy to drink.

Nothing complex that will knock your socks off, but it’s a smooth, pleasant, affordable, and reliable easy-drinker
