Glenlivet Nàdurra 16 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 11, 2015 (edited April 13, 2015)The wood spice is a featured player, but a solo it ain't. Honey, toasted vanilla, some bitter orange shine through. Some nice smoke on the finish. Absolutely shocked by the ABV, as this goes down like some 80 proofs. -
Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 20, 2015 (edited May 19, 2015)The flavors unfold in distinct phases. Moderate peat and soda bread up front. Weightier flavors, tangy and round, settle on the palate. Dry, long finish that brings oaky Chardonnay to mind. The wood spices are not quite tamed, and pleasingly so. -
Kilchoman Machir Bay (2012 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 4, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)Smoke and richness settle in immediately, but easily. Finishes tart, and herbal with a touch of bitterness that feels integrated into the whole. Recognizably young, however this only adds to the enjoyment. -
Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed August 20, 2014 (edited September 25, 2015)Peat smoke, leather, and smoldering rubber. To me, there's something regal about how boldly and smoothly these flavors are rendered. Great for rumination.
