Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 19, 2022 (edited November 12, 2022)Nose: Unsurprisingly the sherry casks leave a heavy influence on the nose. Stewed fruit, lemon zest, malt squares cereal. Faint whiff of salty sea air. Palate: Initial hit of brine. Milk chocolate, dried sweet sultanas, a hint of dark fruit like prunes. Finish: The chocolate lingers for me, with barrel spice rising and falling. Leaves red apple as an aftertaste. -
Lochlea Our Barley
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 9, 2022 (edited November 17, 2022)Nose: Citrus peel, dried grass, some sweet green fruit like white grapes. Palate: Light honey, subtly salted caramel. Some real peppery spice to this I didn't expect from the aroma. Finish: Lingering honey finish, the pepper dissipates quite quickly. -
Nose: Floral, pears, light honey, caramelised pineapple. It's light but inviting. Palate: Delicate, dried stone fruit like apricot or perhaps mango, milk chocolate creeps in, some oak towards the back. Finish: Short but quite dry, stewed apples prominent. Notes: It's very light and approachable. Perhaps a nice entry into the style.

Dalmore 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 24, 2022 (edited September 9, 2022)Nose: Dark honey, molasses, malt, vanilla pod, chocolate. Palate: A touch thin. Vanilla, dark fruits, cinnamon spice. Sherry influences quite prominent. Finish: Medium length. Dark chocolate, oak. -
Nose: Light peaty smoke, barrel wood, some sweeter vanilla high notes. Palate: Sherry, golden sultanas, subtle citrus peel, developing peaty smoke. Barrel spices towards the finish. Finish: Decent length. Salty-sweet, fruity, smokey BBQ sauce. The sherry lingers on the aftertaste. Notes: I sense that it's a young liquid but it's enriched by the quality of the maturation process which gives it a fuller, richer body than it might otherwise have as a single maturation.
