Tamnavulin Red Wine Cask (American Cabernet Savignon Edition) No. 4
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 22, 2025Nose: Light brown sugar, red fruit, slightly tannic, cake spice. Palate: Slightly oily texture. Oak spice. Forest fruit. Jammy. Finish: A bit more wood spice develops and ends up tannic. Notes: I think with a bit of time this will relax and soften up. The wood spice comes in a bit too hot but it has potential. -
Nose: Milk chocolate, vanilla. Digestive biscuit. Soft. Palate: A wallop of sweet vanilla and chocolate. Finish: A coffee flavour creeps in that tastes exactly like the coffee cream Quality Street sweets when they were still a thing. Notes: This is sweet, and to many will be 'whiskey adjacent' as technically it has adjuncts rather than things included in the still. However there's no denying that its bloody lovely, whether neat or mixed. I'll have to find a cocktail for this. Chocolate Orange old fashioned springs to mind.31.0 GBP per Bottle

Nose: Slight pear-drop note. Crisp green apple. Retro nasal offers a caramel toffee apple. Palate: Slighty oily texture. Sweet burst of concentrated white grape. Light oaky barrel spice. Orchard fruits. Finish: Lingering wine flavours and some dry tannins. Notes: This was fresh out of the bottle and I think it needs some time to itself to relax. I'll revisit it in a month or so.

Nose: Dry spice cupboard, sweet smoke. Corn tortilla chips. Palate: Loads of hot honey sweetness. A dose of sea salt. Finish: Charcoal smoke and black pepper linger. A red apple sweetness appears much later. A little bit of water brings out more of the fruit and dials down the pepper heat which makes it more enjoyable in my opinion.
