Simple and effective rye—possibly the most archetypal of ryes. The nose provides some spicy barrel notes while the palate is straight to the point with sweet, fresh, and spicy barrel notes. Pretty good, but no wow factor. It is a shelf essential.

Texas provides unique conditions for aging whiskey. This feels like a novelty in that it does seem to embody Texas, a place I have never been, but have seen in the movie Paris, Texas and on Spongebob Squarepants.

Certainly a rye whiskey. Fresh up front, but similar to cane sugar soda. That’s not the worst comparison, but it’s nothing to pusue.

The wow factor in Bulleit comes from that dirty root vegetable taste. It is not to everyone’s liking and feels somewhat out of place, but doesn’t make Bulleit any worse. If anything, it saves it from being a more boring rye.

It’s an incredibly normal rye good for mixing or sipping neat. On the nose you can still detect the scent of the raw rye grain and the palate is sweet and spicy with some traces of wood and metal. I’d even say it’s somewhat tawney. It’s hard to mess rye up.

It is my opinion that this rye should be mixed with another liquid. I had to add a few drops of water to enjoy it.
