Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 19, 2016 (edited August 26, 2017)A healthy dose of smoky charcoal. The nose reminded me of Roquefort cheese, lime, and a hint of sherry (compared to the double first fill of the dark origins).the taste was sweet with the hallmark hp tobacco presence. The recent price increase is disappointing. -
Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 12, 2016 (edited January 9, 2018)A drinking partner noted that this rye tasted like dill. I totally got dill. Weird. -
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2016 (edited August 26, 2017)Salty, spicy, warming. High ABV and full flavors tempered the youngness. I liked the malt flavor. No peat but kept its Islay character. I might be mistaken but a slight tannin punch like an antiseptic, perhaps from the oak casks. -
Octomore 06.1/167 Scottish Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2016 (edited January 21, 2018)Really strange whisky. I would not have guessed the 167 ppm and what's up with the vanilla? Really? Not as smokey and it was surprisingly sweet. A little water brought in some more salty and meaty notes. I liked this more than the Coryvreken. -
Bunnahabhain 12 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 28, 2016 (edited August 26, 2017)I would have guessed the Bunny was a Speyside. I did not get any peat or brine. Very balanced. I'm surprised by it mid eighties score.
