Hakushu 18 Year Peated Malt (100th Anniversary Edition)
Single Malt — Japan
Reviewed November 4, 2023Nose: very slight peat, marshmallow, asian pear, mint, red apple. Smells like a distant bonfire in the middle of an orchard. Taste: floral, fruity, with slight spice towards the finish Finish: lingers longYamazaki Distillery -
Floral, heavy cherry blossoms on the nose, and sweet. One of the best whiskies for the nose. It leaps out at you compared to the hibiki 21. Leather and raisins as well. Taste: extremely smooth. Spicy. A little bit less sweet than the nose suggests. Pick up some notes of apple and oak towards the finish. Fig jam as well. Finish: lingers foreverYamazaki Distillery

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2020 (edited July 19, 2021)Good, big classic bourbon flavors (vanilla, caramel, baking spices). An enjoyable pour! -
Nose: rose with a basket of rich, sweet dried stone fruit underneath: apricot, plum, peach. Vanilla and almond lingers beneath the surface. My friend tasting it with me got a note of salted caramel. Water brings out vanilla, caramel, and sweet cinnamon. Mouth: viscous and rich. Coats the tongue. Initial taste of vanilla. Gives way to dried fruit, peach, and roasted nuts. Towards the middle/back of the mouth, the pot still spices expand into some mild heat. Finish: despite the pot still spices, it goes down smoothly. Finish lingers forever and pleasantly. Great whisky! One of my favorites. In the realm of yamazaki 18, pappy 20, and laphroaig 25 for me.

Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 1)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 7, 2020 (edited February 14, 2021)Tasting notes are for batch 011. Nose: smoke, peat, seaweed/brine, vanilla, and a hint of sweetness lurking behind everything. Slight medicinal notes as well. Nothing unpleasant about it. The first time I smelled this whiskey, I got some notes of tropical fruit, maybe pineapple. But, I didn't get it again. Mouth: oily, viscous, feels great in your mouth. The smoke and Ash comes to the forefront here. If you like peat, this is your whiskey! If you wait long enough, the sweetness and vanilla lurking in the nose start to come out. They are still fairly muted, but present. Finish: lonnnnnng finish. some spice and plenty of smoke. Feels like I ate a peppery brisket that has been smoked for the entire day. I also paired this at one point with some medium blue cheese. Quite the combination! I recommend it, as it brought out the non-peated elements of this whiskey, such as the sweetness, fruit and floral notes, and vanilla much more prominently. I have a bottle of this and would gladly buy this again. -

Smooth Ambler Old Scout Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed January 18, 2020 (edited June 13, 2020)I generally thought this was decent bourbon. It has grassy and spicy notes on the mouth because of the rye. Those were the most prominent notes for me. Slight sweetness on the nose, a bit of ethanol as well.
