Laphroaig 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2023 (edited January 21, 2024)The nose remimded me of Bowmore 12 which I liked. The palate was burnt ash and sweetness, not as cindery as Ardbeg. I kept looking for the medicinal factor but it didn't jump out at me. Adding a half teaspoon of water improved the finish for me, but neat works very well too. Not hard to drink after the first glass. If you've tasted moderate peat and smoke before this shouldn't scare you. Starting to really love it.89.95 CAD per BottleLCBO -
Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 5, 2022 (edited March 14, 2022)Vanilla notes, pleasant nose, easy drinking at 43%, little alcohol burn, I added a teaspoon of water. The finish was malty and was the best part for me. I would take this over similarly priced Glenmorangie 10 and Aberlour 12. The marketing seems geared towards a North American audience, with so much emphasis on the bourbon cask factor. Trust me, this tastes like scotch. I've never tasted Glenfiddich 12 so I can't compare the two.
