John David Albert's Taos Lightning Single Barrel Straight Rye 5 Year
Rye — (bottled in) New Mexico, USA
Reviewed August 27, 2021I agree with Dreaming-of-Islay’s comment about hipster catnip. And, just like hipster catnip, this is a bunch of nothing. This does not compare favorably to Sazerac and it’s twice the price. I’m a NM native and the marketing got me. -

Uncle Nearest 1856 Tennessee Whiskey (Sourced Whiskey)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 5, 2021 (edited June 15, 2021)Unremarkable for a $50 bottle. The display pitch got me. Some heat but not excessive. Spicy. Wood? No prominent caramel/vanilla. 6/19 - finishing up the bottle and nothing has changed from my initial evaluations. The whiskey makes a decent Old Fashioned, but not not outstanding. Uncle Nearest is not bad, but it is not good enough for the $ IMO. There won’t be a follow purchase by me. -
