Bruichladdich Black Art 1990 04.1 Edition 23 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 7, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Not sure what inspired me to have a pour of this on a Tuesday evening, maybe I just wanted to keep having great whiskey... anyways, the first sip was like biting into a warm caramel apple, which with time evolves into cocoa and red wine. Thick and rich, aromas of bananas foster. Not sure what I'll do when this bottle is finally empty, one of the best things I've tasted...350.0 USD per Bottle -
Laphroaig 25 Year Cask Strength (2013 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 7, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Last of the bunch. Strong, but well-integrated, sherry presence that, along with the creaminess, comes across as blackberry cobbler with a nice hint of smoke. Nice thick mouthfeel. There's just the slightest hint of ethanol on the nose.600.0 USD per Bottle -
Duncan Taylor Dimensions 22 years
Single Malt — Laphroaig, Scotland
Reviewed March 7, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Cask 563323, bottled 08.2019 Time for the heavy hitters. Very subdued peat, age has broken down phenols to a nice lemon custard layer that's well integrated with what's left of the smoke. Very light salinity. The oily texture in this is a thing of beauty. One of the best malts I've had, and while pricey, it's head and shoulders above OB Laphroaig 27 at a similar price point.750.0 USD per Bottle -
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2021 Pedro Ximenez Casks
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 7, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Smoke is subdued by sherry cask. Fig, dried cherry, fruitcake. Full-bodied and rich. Little bit of meaty smoke on the finish. -
Puntagave Rustico Bacanora Blanco
Bacanora — Sonora, Mexico
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Lactic presence that makes this almost seem like a raicilla at first, but light smoke on the finish. Little bit herbal. It's OK for what it is, but I wouldn't guess it's a bacanora in a blind taste. -
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2022 Warehouse 1
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Nose is briny, kippered herring comes to mind. Not as saline as Talisker, but it's noticeable, and adds a pleasant element to balance out the signature Laphroaig flavor. Salt and minerals are more present on the finish. Light bodied compared to other Laphroaigs. Guessing those who think this isn't "interesting enough" to be worthy of the Cairdeas line just want gimmicks - I haven't had a better Laphroig that didn't cost over $500/bottle. -
Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength (Batch 15)
Single Malt — Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Going to go through my collection of Laphroaig bottles over the next couple of days... starting with 10 OCS, Batch 15. Nose is sweet and slightly medicinal, but not the formaldehyde bomb the regular 10 is. Earthy peat, cough syrup, a smoky finish with some bitterness that's replaced by sweeter caramel flavors as it airs. Most would probably find this more enjoyable with a splash of water. -
Rhum Barbancourt Estate Reserve 15 Year
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Haiti
Reviewed March 5, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)First cane rum I ever had. 15 years in a barrel makes this virtually indistinguishable from a molasses rum until the finish, where some grassy notes start to appear. Very little in the way of funk. Far from the most interesting Haitian rum, and nothing like Clairins, but one of my favorite widely-available rums. -
El Tesoro Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 5, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Smells like freshly cut greens with a hint of ethanol coming through. Herbal palate, slightly sweeter than G4 (which I tasted just before). Very agave-forward like a good Blanco should be. Finish is a little peppery and slightly earthy. This is the old "Platinum" square bottle which is supposedly exactly the same as the new "Blanco" label.
