Puntagave Rustico Bacanora Blanco
Bacanora — Sonora, Mexico
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Lactic presence that makes this almost seem like a raicilla at first, but light smoke on the finish. Little bit herbal. It's OK for what it is, but I wouldn't guess it's a bacanora in a blind taste. -
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Nose is briny, kippered herring comes to mind. Not as saline as Talisker, but it's noticeable, and adds a pleasant element to balance out the signature Laphroaig flavor. Salt and minerals are more present on the finish. Light bodied compared to other Laphroaigs. Guessing those who think this isn't "interesting enough" to be worthy of the Cairdeas line just want gimmicks - I haven't had a better Laphroig that didn't cost over $500/bottle. -
Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 15)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2023 (edited September 20, 2024)Going to go through my collection of Laphroaig bottles over the next couple of days... starting with 10 OCS, Batch 15. Nose is sweet and slightly medicinal, but not the formaldehyde bomb the regular 10 is. Earthy peat, cough syrup, a smoky finish with some bitterness that's replaced by sweeter caramel flavors as it airs. Most would probably find this more enjoyable with a splash of water. -
Rhum Barbancourt Estate Reserve 15 Year
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Haiti
Reviewed March 5, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)First cane rum I ever had. 15 years in a barrel makes this virtually indistinguishable from a molasses rum until the finish, where some grassy notes start to appear. Very little in the way of funk. Far from the most interesting Haitian rum, and nothing like Clairins, but one of my favorite widely-available rums. -
El Tesoro Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 5, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Smells like freshly cut greens with a hint of ethanol coming through. Herbal palate, slightly sweeter than G4 (which I tasted just before). Very agave-forward like a good Blanco should be. Finish is a little peppery and slightly earthy. This is the old "Platinum" square bottle which is supposedly exactly the same as the new "Blanco" label. -
Don Fulano Añejo Imperial Tequila
Tequila Extra Añejo — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 4, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Picked this up because I wanted something to compare to Tears. Nose is pleasant, hints of custard and almond. Get some similar gingerbread notes on the palate, but compared to Tears, a little more herbal, less fruity, and slightly rougher around the edges. It's pretty nice, but expensive enough that you might as well buy Tears if available. Haven't gone wrong with anything from 1146 yet.190.0 USD per Bottle -
Uruapan Charanda Blanco
Other Sugarcane — Michoacán, Mexico
Reviewed March 3, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Olive brine nose with a healthy dose of funk. Very earthy, the palate reminds me of Paranubes at first, but the finish is much more along the lines of a typical Agricole. -
Darroze Domaine de la Poste 1976
Armagnac — France
Reviewed February 27, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Vegetal, woody aroma, but not strong. Oak is present on the palate, smooth, a little dry. Didn't know what to expect considering I haven't had anything this old; it's complex and tastes oaky but not over-oaked.300.0 USD per Bottle -
Grosperrin bas Armagnac Lot 1996
Armagnac — France
Reviewed February 27, 2023 (edited March 22, 2023)Fine Drams x Aficionados selection. Slight ethanol on the nose, but not enough to harm it. Full bodied, maybe a little meaty. Well-integrated wood, a little musty. Spice comes in on the lightly bitter finish. Weaker nose than the previous L'encantada, but superior palate.
