George Dickel 9 Year Hand Selected Barrel
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 10, 2022 (edited November 19, 2022)9 yr, bottle #60. Room temp vs cube didn’t change the tasting drastically which was nice. Nose is floral, apricot sugar. Taste comes across sweet, vanilla, caramel. Bit of pepper on backend but very subtle. The char is very easy and mild. Well done. -
Rabbit Hole Cavehill Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed February 8, 2022 (edited April 18, 2022)Nose is mint, sweet. Neat room temp, warm spice on lip and tongue, minty, oaks, smoke, caramel then vanilla, cinnamon. Very smooth, not to hot and overwhelming. With a cube of ice, not much changed which I always appreciate. Muted some of the mint/cinnamon and brought out the smoke and earth. I’m a fan. -
Penelope Private Select Barrel Strength Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed December 17, 2021 (edited October 4, 2022)Batch 11, 116 proof. Aroma is floral, vanilla. Room temp neat, for 116 proof surprisingly mellow. Notes of oak, vanilla, caramel, pepper. Light burn on lips and tongue. With a bourbon cube chilling it, changed it quite a bit. Comes across almost scotch like with a smoky taste. -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 17, 2021 (edited September 27, 2021)Really liked this one. So smooth for a 116 proof. Room temp, neat is a treat for sure. Warm vanilla, oak char and pepper spice. It’s very drinkable this way. One cube does mute down some of the spice, but the warm vanilla stays with you. Has really nice mouth feel to it. Excellent bourbon. -
Russell's Reserve Private Barrel Selection
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 15, 2021 (edited March 16, 2023)Barrel 20-0468 Has a strong alcohol nose, mixed in with vanilla, caramel. For a 110 proof it was surprisingly mellow. Room temperature neat, was boozy but sweet. Caramel, vanilla towards the front, going to heat, spice, woodsy. Felt it was very balanced. So one bourbon cube impression didn’t change it drastically. Cuts out most of the sweetness on the front end, so now the peppery spice and burn is more noticeable. Seems like it ramps it up a notch. -
Bib & Tucker 12 Year Single Barrel Select Bourbon (Barrel Proof)
Bourbon — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2021 (edited September 22, 2022)Bottle 128/153. Has a very pleasant nose. Corn, vanilla, hint of floral. Sweet. Taste is fresh, clean. Boozy but not overly strong. Corn, caramel, oak, very easy pepper spice, finish is quite quick and clean. Really enjoyed this one. Better neat at room temperature. Cube ok, but kind of mutes it. -
