Dunedin Oamaru 25 Year
Single Malt — South Island, New Zealand
Reviewed September 30, 2017 (edited October 3, 2017)Had a drop of this when out for dinner. Didn't really blow me away. Got the oak, faint vanilla notes and sweetness. Maybe a case that the bottle had been opened to long as flavour profile was muted. Have to judge on what I taste though. At $240 USD for 700ml bottle equivilent it's a 3. -
Gran Centenario Plata Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 23, 2017 (edited October 3, 2017)I prefer the aged versions and find this a bit to bland. -
Gran Centenario Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 23, 2017 (edited October 3, 2017)I tried this in a flight of 3 along with the Blanco and Anejo with a few palate cleansers thrown in for good measure. Spicy, peppery, smoky are some of the standout characteristics similar to its anejo brother. I'm not really a bit tequila fan however so a 3 is as far as I can go. -
Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited February 21, 2021)I loved the 20 year....this not so much. To be fair this is my ninth tasting but in a way that should deaden my taste buds to the harsher notes but it doesn't. Started off well but the bitter aftertaste overpowers the initial vanilla citrus notes. High 2's rounding up to 3 as it's cheap at $55 USD -
Glenfiddich Excellence 26 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited December 8, 2020)No. 8 on my Glenfiddich journey. Great whiskey, one of those ones you just want to roll round and round your mouth. Vanilla, honey in spades. Now this is a ridiculously expensive whisky at $350USD. I really should take it down to 3 based on price but its better than that. Great way to finish off the tasting. -
Glenfiddich IPA Experiment
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited October 7, 2017)No. 7 on my Glenfiddich tasting journey. As the previous review said, briny sweetness. Like a mild islay in a way. Paired it with an actual IPA beer which was an interesting experience. Really changed the beer flavor. Step down from the Xx. Early 3's I'd give it at $100USD a bottle -
Glenfiddich Project XX
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited July 23, 2021)No 6. on my Glenfiddich journey. $15 USD for the whole tasting range is a bargain! Port, sherry, spicy, toffee. I like this a lot. As pb mich says I think this is also my favourite ahead of the 15. Early 4's at least and at $90usd great drop. This was rated 2nd on the night out of 8 Glenfiddichs by ~ 20 people. I managed to sneak a 2nd taste in...literally the last dram. Update 6/03/18 My previous review was for Batch #1. Ok I've now had Batch 1 and Batch 2. I was at dramfest with a mate who had a bottle of batch #1 and said like me it was very good. We both tried Batch #2.....I think I almost saw him cry. It's gone way down hill. Night and day between the two batches. -
Glenfiddich 21 Year Reserva Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited September 3, 2017)No. 5 on my Glenfiddich journey. Now don't get me wrong its a good whisky 3.5 I'd give it but at $190usd i can't really rate higher than a 3. Half the price I'd say a 4. I'm struggling to get much past sweet rum and vanilla but maybe the indian food we had half way through the tasting has stuffed up my taste buds. -
Glenfiddich 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 29, 2017 (edited October 21, 2024)No. 4 on my Glenfiddich journey. Toffee, still hint of green apple, sherry, vanilla. Prefer the 15 year I think which has more of a spicy sherriness and less of green apple but for $70 USD and I'm feeling generous I'll round up - it really could be 3 or 4 I'm thinking. Was advised to add water but really killed it when I did.
