Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 28, 2017 (edited September 24, 2018)No. 3 on my Glenfiddich journey. Step up from the 12. I'd give it 3.5. Spice, sherry, nice viscosity. At $65 USD I'll round up for value. This tasting I'll finish :-). Rated top by the tasting group of ~ 20 people out of the 8 Glenfiddich's we tried on the night. -
Glenfiddich 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 28, 2017 (edited August 29, 2017)No. 2 on my 8 flight Glenfiddich tasting session. Light floral, green apple etc. Not one for finishing. Solid for the price. Update: started this is part of the flight of several whiskeys and quite enjoyed this the second time around. -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 28, 2017 (edited October 4, 2017)Not a bad drop for the price. Solid I'd call it. Vanilla, honey all the standard stuff. Wouldn't buy a bottle -
Received this as a present from a bunch of mates which was a lovely surprise. Also surprising was the fact that despite it's age it retained the classic Caol Ila flavour profile quite well, age having faded it slightly but smoothed off the rougher edges of its younger brothers. The Caol Ila moch we also tried on the night seemed very rough in comparison. Great drop at a reasonable price point for a 25 at ~ $180 USD. Taking the price into consideration I'd put the 1/3rd less priced 18 yr ahead but very happy to have this as a present :-). Update: Now this has settled a while I rate this even more. Given it's one of the cheapest distillery 25 year distillery bottlings out there I'm rounding to a 4.5.

Glenmorangie 18 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 27, 2017 (edited December 31, 2021)I had high hopes for this one as I thought the 10 year quite a nice drop, quite rich and viscous and great value. Initially when opened it I thought it needed to calm down but a week later it was still the same. Slightly bitter ethonally flavor out-competes the remaining components. I gave this 3 goes and was shared amongst a wide number of others with same opinion. Maybe dud bottle? Well down the list of Glenmorangie favourites. At least at $85 it didn't break the bank. -
To echo Mashtun Mike and others finally a great bowmore at a good price at round $100USD. Smoke, stewed fruit and bunch of other lovely flavor components results in a great all round drop. Was one of the favourites at the tasting I ran last night. Early 4's I give it. Update. The bottles been open a while now with not much remaining. Rating still holds but I'm getting flavours of bacon and a slight hint of the cat pee flavour that was quite prevalent in the 15.

Edradour The Fairy Flag 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 25, 2017 (edited July 26, 2017)Runs hot for 46%. Raisiny wood heavy fruitcake taste. Definitely not really my cup of tea due to the fact the oak and alcohol influence really aren't in balance with the rest of the whisky. Few drops of water made no difference. Solid 3
