The nose is somewhat astringent, citrus, maybe grapefruit, orange. The palate hits like MGP rye, which is to say, pretty good. Sweet vanilla, cherry, then grassy rye notes, dill. Many thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the generous pour!

WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed July 18, 2022 (edited April 15, 2023)Decent, pretty middle-of-the-road rye flavor, sweet. It's about on the level of Sazerac or Rittenhouse. At the going rate around here of $40+, it seems priced about $10 too high. -
Tyrconnell 15 Year Madeira Cask Finish
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed July 17, 2022 (edited November 22, 2022)I was expecting to like this one more than the Oloroso finish 16 year, only because I tend to really enjoy Madeira finished whiskey. However, while this was still quite good, I thought it came across as more sour, less full-flavored, and more bitter on the finish. Overall, it was still an enjoyable Irish, and I’m grateful to @ContemplativeFox for the pour. -
Tyrconnell 16 Year Oloroso & Moscatel Cask Finish
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed July 17, 2022 (edited July 18, 2022)On the nose, green apple, toasted caramel, vanilla, honey, lemon peel, something tropical. The palate is honey, chocolate, dark fruit, and brings some nice oak with a little spice on the finish. I quite enjoyed this. More full-flavored and balanced than the 15-year Madeira finished. Thanks much to @ContemplativeFox for the sample. Quite a treat! -
I think this is the perfect rum for the first two thirds of the experience. The nose is deep and decadent, and the front half of the palate delivers the same rich, oaky depth. Unfortunately, this takes a sharp turn at the finish and gets quite bitter. Maybe if you don't swallow this one it might remain perfect. Like Sovereignty, others from the ECS series that I've tried were better, namely the 2009 and Nobiliary. Thanks much to @ctbeck11 for the sample.

The first whiff brings a little bit of nail salon, which isn't among my favorite notes. It's pretty hot on both the nose and the palate. Underneath the nail salon, there's some caramel banana, vanilla, apricot, maybe black cherry. The palate shows ethanol, grape soda, chocolate, green banana, vanilla, then goes for a fairly bitter finish. This is a little bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, It's decent rum, but it doesn't rise to the level of other recent FS releases I've tried, and it's not a great value.110.0 USD per Bottle

Side-by-side with Detente, this came in second, but I enjoyed it more than I expected. Similar to Detente, this has fruit, vanilla, toffee, but comes off a little flat, less depth in the comparison. Still really solid, and it seems that Foursquare can do no wrong. Thanks again to @ContemplativeFox for the sample!

Lined up next to Premise, I thought this was the better one. Rich, vanilla, caramel, berry. Wish I would've picked this one up when I had the chance at 60-something bucks. Thanks to @ContemplativeFox for the generous sample of this and the Premise.

Sample graciously provided by @ctbeck11 poured next to the 2009 ECS. Compared to the 2009, this appears to be a shade or two darker. The nose and palate similarly show a bit more depth, richness, and wood. It seems to be hotter than the 2009, even more so than the 2% ABV would suggest, but the finish brings something that I can’t quite put my finger on, which puts it over the top as better than the 2009. Really enjoyable experience sipping this one. However, given that I’m a relative newby at aged rum (and that I’m a value shopper), I’m not sure if it’s as much better as the price difference would indicate. I found the 2009 for about 80, and it sounds like the Nobillary retailed for 120+. This actually makes me want to go buy another bottle of the 2009, because while I think this is better, it makes me think the 2009 is a screaming deal for a rum that seems to be maybe 85% the quality as perhaps what may be the pinnacle of rums. Thank you to @ctbeck11 for the opportunity to try this one!
