Tastes

Spicy, sherry, a little cherry cough syrup, and hot.

Savory, peaty, briny; some sweet, but not a lot.

Smoky campfire, grilled corn, peaches. I like it, but definitely have to be in the mood for it.

Compared to the original Texas Single Malt, this tastes more like a scotch with fresh peaches. As noted by others, sometimes even get peach gummy rings. Such a great value, now a fixture in the cabinet. Re-review, it's been more than a year since I last had this one. The fruit is still very prominent. Lots of apple, peach, apricot. There's a wood presence, but more on the nose than the palate. The fruit goes a smidge sour on the palate and finish, betraying the youth of this spirit. Overall, I'm still pleased for the price, but there's a little too much sourness. It's remarkable what they can accomplish with just 3 years in the barrel, but I'd really be curious what this is like after say 5 years.

First impression, I like it. Sweet, tangy, salt-and-peppered barbecue meats, orange peel, something herbal, and campfire.

Don't think it's an improvement on the original 10 - the sherry sweetness overpowers the floral character that I enjoy about the original. Update 2022: Trying this one again, I'd say it's got more flavor than I gave it credit for. The sherry notes are somewhat generic, and it does cover over some of what I like about the original, but the bump in proof is nice, and it's quite drinkable. Bumping the score back up a bit.

Not sure there is a better value for a lightly peated single malt. Fruity, and the peat shows up as a slight smoke. For a blended scotch, the Great King Street Glasgow Blend is the same price here, but I prefer the Loch Lomond.

This is what I imagine a full grain leather belt would taste like if it was soaked in vanilla and cherry cough syrup, if you can imagine that in a not totally unpleasant way.

Rich, bold, grilled peach, smoke. Lineage turned up to eleven. Like a crossover between bourbon and scotch.

Not sure if its's more floral, but it seems more complex than the regular single malt. Definitely more interesting and a half-step above the regular.
