High West American Prairie Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed December 3, 2018 (edited January 3, 2019)Sweet flavor with a decent rye bite. Maybe a hint of cherry and almond. Dry woody finish with long rye spice. Not outstanding, but definitely competent and drinkable - above average - it's a solid B. Enjoyabale. -
Connemara 12 Year Peated Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed December 1, 2018 (edited April 1, 2020)Nice peat, different from peat usually found in scotch, but enjoyable nonetheless. Sweet malty flavors, with a hint of honey for balance. Not the most sophisticated, but enjoyable and drinkable. -
Spicy nose with a hint of vanilla and moderate caramel. Sweet spicy rye gives way to dry oaky wood with a pleasant round, full caramel flavor, hint of vanilla on the palate as well. Nice burn. Somewhat oily mouthfeel, but I'd prefer it a bit oilier. Still, a welcome entry into my catalog, not perfect, but quite good.

A decent amount of spice, with sweeter notes that develop into rich vanilla and caramel flavor, reminds me a bit of vanilla ice cream or cream soda. There is some dry wood mixed in that balances the sweeter caramel and vanilla flavors. Decent alcohol burn. Quite good, absolutely fantastic for the price. I'm a devoted scotch drinker and it's better than many scotches.

Clynelish 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 19, 2018 (edited November 13, 2019)Modest peat and smoke give way to sweet fruity almost brandy-like notes balanced with delightful malt. Strong salty/briny coastal flavors add additional balance and layers to the aforementioned sweetness. Absolutely wonderful and very affordable for how great it is! This one will always have a place on my shelf.
