Beautiful rum...with a catch I am more of a Jamaican rum drinker I have found out (so there is a slight bias opinion here), but on a straight up basis honest review; it is actually a very, very good rum. If you like any Demerara region rum, this is heaven. I will only sip this neat, cut or on the rocks. Mixed with cola I feel it gets lost in all the business of flavour & fizz. Same with dry ginger or sprite.

*DISCLAIMER My reviews are not palate reviews, they are based on “am I going waste my money on a bottle of this or save my money for something better”* Thicker than most (rums), this is hefty strong in flavour & after spice if drank neat. Huge ethanol hit aftertaste. If drinking on the rocks, lots of flavour profile like molasses, spice & coffee notes. Drank with cola/sprite, lost in the flavour of cola- not worth it. Drank in a coffee flavour is lost but a huge ethanol hit aftertaste which will certainly get you “awake” in the morning say, on a weekend at the cottage drinking. EDIT>>> an absolute winner with dry ginger ale & fresh lime wedge as a dark and stormy

*DISCLAIMER My reviews are not palate reviews, they are based on “am I going waste my money on a bottle of this or save my money for something better”* My personal favourite. Cheaper than most, but excellent molasses-like mixability & deep rum notes. If I could choose between the only rum for the rest of my life, this would be it.

Appleton Estate Signature Blend Rum
Gold Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed December 8, 2020 (edited September 2, 2021)*DISCLAIMER My reviews are not palate reviews, they are based on “am I going waste my money on a bottle of this or save my money for something better”* Excellent mixability, taste, aftertaste & meat properties. Slightly smooth & darker than most, has an excellent body for the classification of golden rum. My go-to if I cannot decide to try a new rum or do not have any Havana Club 7yr on hand from Cuba -
*DISCLAIMER My reviews are not palate reviews, they are based on “am I going waste my money on a bottle of this or save my money for something better”* Sweet but not as overly molasses-like the 7yr. Highly mixable with cola or really anything. Goes well with fruit garnish also. Excellent choice to mix.

Flor de Caña Añejo Clásico 5 Rum
Aged Rum — Nicaragua
Reviewed December 8, 2020 (edited January 4, 2021)*DISCLAIMER My reviews are not palate reviews, they are based on “am I going waste my money on a bottle of this or save my money for something better”* I’m sorry but this is horrendous. I was a mixologist & VIP bartender for many years, if that helps also. Smells like gasoline, tastes like gasoline & immediate migraine hangover. Maybe it’s just me. Straight on rocks is like gasoline. With cola it’s still bad. With sprite it did not improve the horrendous notes of anything other than methylated spirits.
