Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask (Old Bottling)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 17, 2021 (edited September 17, 2021)I find this to be good, that is, not bad, but not something that brings me back for more. The term “plain vanilla” is overused for flavors, but I think it really pertains to this bottling. This is smooth, predictable, and just kind of ok. There is no edge to it that defines its flavor profile, it tastes like scotch. If you have a friend who is “afraid” of drinking scotch, this might be a safe approach to it. -
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed July 30, 2021 (edited September 17, 2021)Very full bodied, but not at all harsh. It has an interesting smokiness without being peaty. The smokiness is kind of like a wordiness, a bit like saw dust from a piece of hard wood. To me, it compares to the Balvenie, but with a broader flavor profile, but not as herbal. Really interesting stuff. -
