Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask (Old Bottling)
Single Malt — Highlands, ScotlandTasted August 17, 2021I find this to be good, that is, not bad, but not something that brings me back for more. The term “plain vanilla” is overused for flavors, but I think it really pertains to this bottling. This is smooth, predictable, and just kind of ok. There is no edge to it that defines its flavor profile, it tastes like scotch. If you have a friend who is “afraid” of drinking scotch, this might be a safe approach to it.
Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie Scottish Barley
Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandTasted July 30, 2021Very full bodied, but not at all harsh. It has an interesting smokiness without being peaty. The smokiness is kind of like a wordiness, a bit like saw dust from a piece of hard wood. To me, it compares to the Balvenie, but with a broader flavor profile, but not as herbal. Really interesting stuff.
Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandTasted June 17, 2021This is one of my favorite styles of scotch….full, rich, with a lot of vanilla and some notable fruit.
