Glendronach 2008 11 year Single Cask Pedro Ximenez
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed June 11, 2023 (edited June 13, 2023)Nose- grape jam, a touch of hay, vanilla wafer, and fruit stripe gum Palate- rich feel, vanilla followed by caramel, a bit of heat and a burst of red fruit. It is jelly in a glass. Finish- a but tannic and lingering. Pleasant oak, but perhaps a bit too dry. Overall- this is a great offering. The sweet grape notes balanced by oak and barnyard really deliver. Does it knock it out of the park? No. Ground rule double? Absolutely! -
O.K.I. Reserve Blended Bourbon Whiskey (Batch 1)
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed June 7, 2023 (edited November 3, 2023)Taste- neat 2oz in glen cairn Nose- flat cherry cola and sticky caramel dominate. Slight hint of leather or dried tobacco keeps you on your toes. Palate- the first thought is what a wonderfully thick, viscous mouthfeel! This is so rich and buttery to me. Cola and caramel carry through with a bit of nutmeg or perhaps eggnog flavor. There is some nice older wood notes but nothing soggy. I do get hints of milk chocolate with the caramel reminescent of Snicker's bar. This is what a bourbon should be 100%. Finish- lingered longer than I thought it would at 100 proof, and left on a nice chocolate cream note almost like chocolate mousse. Overall- I am REALLY digging this, and not really surprised. Reminds me alot of the Remus Repeal lineup, but more rich. The blending here is superb. I actually want to see how this stacks up with some of my most favorite 4rs Limited Editions. It is THAT good. -
Starlight Carl T. Huber's Cigar Batch Bourbon Finished in Brazilian Amburana Barrels
Bourbon — Indiana , USA
Reviewed June 5, 2023Tasting- this is 2 oz neat, Binnys SIB pick at 111 proof in a glen cairn Nose- Cinnamon stick, a bit of ethanol, and vanilla cream cheese frosting. Palate- Cinnamon candy, vanilla frosting, and fresh baked pastry dough. This is like a cinnabon! Only complaint is that it rides a tad bit hot, but quickly tempered with a few drops of water. Mouthfeel is creamy, and luxurious Finish- long and spicy. The cinnabon roll turns to hot tamale candies. Overall- completely unique! I have never tasted a finished bourbon like it. If you were expecting traditional bourbon flavors- this isn't it. Starlight has done something completely different here. Normally their finished bourbon tastes young, and the finishes used to dress that up. Here it is transformed to something completely unique and complimentary. Overall a very good experience. Traditional bourbon drinkers will find it all wrong. Exploratory whiskey enthusiasts will find it a completely "on of a kind." I am torn on this one.59.99 USD per Bottle -
Nose- sweet corn, caramel, pecan, and slight ethanol Palate- a bit too much ethanol reveals that this is a young high proof. There is some green banana, vanilla, and pecan cluster. Not horrible, but could be better with age. Comes in a bit too hot. Finish- young oak, almost wood shop. Overall- not what I had hoped for. I loved the bottled in bond, and was hoping for this to be more of the same but more rich. Instead I just got more alcohol bite. It is not a total failure, but it is hot, tastes young. I prefer the early bottled in bond offerings. Water did it no justice. Needs more time

Jack Daniel's 12 Year (Batch 1)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 17, 2023 (edited May 24, 2023)Nose- brown sugar, maple syrup, caramel corn. The nose is 5/5. Palate: follows through to the nose and adds more caramel. I am also catching a wonderful french toast with maple syrup note, along with a burn that reveals its proof. This is great whiskey Finish- Some smoke, maple syrup and a bit of heat. It is long and comforting. The only fla w is a bit of dryness from the oak.....but if you savor wood this is no flaw at all! Overall- This is GREAT whiskey! Not just good but GREAT whiskey! I troed side by side with the 10 yr, and I give the slightest edge to the 10yr. -
Expresiones del Corazón William Larue Weller Añejo (2021 Release)
Tequila Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 11, 2023 (edited May 12, 2023)Nose- Vanilla, caramel, oak with a hit of menthol. A bit muted, but the bourbon aging really comes through! Palate- creme brulee, cherry cough drop, a bit of agave nectar followed by a wave of spice. You can taste the oak in every sip. Mouthfeel is rich and bourbony. Finish- nice long, spicy finish. Cinnamon red hot candies and some all spice are the prevalent notes it goes out on Overall- this is a bourbon lovers tequila! It has all the notes of bourbon with the rich, buttery mouthfeel of tequila. There is just enough vegetal agave to make you understand that this is aged tequila and not light bourbon. It is a really fun and perhaps dangerously good sip. If you are a bourbon lover looking to get into the art of tequila, let me recommend this to ease your way. -
Cascade Moon 15 Year Barrel Proof
Other Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 6, 2023 (edited April 13, 2024)Just didn't get this one. Very short on flavor, almost watery by nature. The finish produced a bitterness. You can do way better, for way less. I will pass on this bottle -
Don Julio Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 6, 2023 (edited December 8, 2023)Nose- fruit forward nose with vanilla and a dusting of powdered sugar. There are some sweet agave nectar notes but nothing too sweet or cloying. In the background is a hint of black pepper. Just enough to keepnthis from becoming to much of a dessert. Palate- coating and viscous. Absolutely no burn on the entry. There are some caramel notes that make themselves apparent, vanilla bean, and custard. The background reminds me of bourbon as I quickly pick nutmeg as a barrel spuce. Really nice sip that makes you want to take another Finish- finish is medium, and very smooth without burn. It reveals a little bit of wood shop on the finish, but nothing where I would regard it as a flaw, just maybe a weakness if anything. Some may actually prefer the tad bit of drying wood. I could give or take Overall- This is one of my favorite sipping tequilas to date. It plays well for a bourbon drinker in that it has many of those same notes- vanilla, caramel, barrel spice like nutmeg. It is sweeter but not cloying or artificial. When other anejo tequilas are now commanding prices in excess of $100 this does the trick at about half of that. I would hate to say it is a "bang for the buck" bottle, as there is quality of craftsmanship in every sip. I will say though you absolutely get your money's worth. -
El Jimador Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed April 23, 2023 (edited May 7, 2023)Sweet agave nectar meets black pepper and vanilla. To me this is a "workhorse" tequila, much in the same way that Wild Turkey 101 offers bang for the buck in the bourbon world. This gives all the agave nectar, smokey vanilla, and peppery notes that is traditiinal tequila. Nothing more, nothing less. Best suited for a cocktail, but can easily be sipped. -
Nose- I get citrus, vanilla, and some over ripe melon, like the rind of a cantaloupe. Palate- agave nectar, and pepper are dominant. There is a "Flintstone Vitamin" quality to it to. Dare I say similar with what one may get in a Dickel whiskey? I don't mind it, and actually find it to be an interesting flavor. The sip is rich, and coating on the tongue. Finish- this is a Loooooong finish! For better or for worse it stays with you. Gets a bit woody and ethanol on the exit. Black pepper fades to a white pepper zing. Wish I had more of the cantaloupe on the way out. Overall- this is a nice tequila. Not a great tequila, not a must have tequila, but a fun sip. What really got me going on the positive side was the rich mouthfeel, and the peppery zing. The minerality threw me a bit, but made me want to sip more. Kind of like rubber necking an accident on the freeway? It wasnt off putting, but just didnt have to be there. My principle concern was the finish. Normally I like a long finish that hugs you. Being an experienced whiskey drinker who loves barrel proofs, I would embrace that. This however takes it to a new level. It hangs around like a guest that you really enjoyed their company, but just doesnt quite know when to leave! I find myself asking continually when will it ever go home. I can take or leave this one. For the 49.99 pricetag it was a good experience. Over that.......I would say it extended its stay too long
