Incredibly tasty with minor sweet wine overtones, possibly Sherry? Has a smoothness that counters its slightly peaty character. I don't taste much peat compared to overall sweetness and richness and complexity. I'm comparing it to VERY peaty Laphroaig Select. Disclaimer: I've tasted them on successive days, not stacked next to each other.

A tasty and well-rounded Irish, yet somewhat harsh for its age. The Madeira sweetness and slightly fruity taste comes through, but sadly it is bested by a mere $30 whiskey (in highly taxed Michigan), the Sexton single malt which is distilled in copper pots and boasts a complex, woody character and finished in Sherry casks. Even after a few drops of water added, the Tyrconnell STILL isn't as mellow as the much lower priced whiskey. Proving that name and aging isn't everything.

For only $30 in Michigan, meaning about 10% of its cost is taxes, this is a phenomenal whiskey, far better than a typical daily drinker. And its regularly available at a basic grocery store! It rivals and actually bests Tyr Connell Madeira casked 10 year and Sherry casked 10 year. I haven't had any other Irish whiskeys except Teeling rum casked and Jameson, which is crap--harsh and overpriced. Except Jameson's Beer Barrel Stout casked edition and Black Barrel Reserve, which I've had too long ago, a couple of years, to directly compare. The mostly mellow taste and complex woody notes remind me of Macallan Edition 3. This is one of my favorite ever low priced whiskeys. The Sexton Single Malt will remain a standard in my collection probably until the day I die.29.99 USD per BottleKroger

For a bourbon, most of which I'm not partial to, this is quite acceptable and delightful! It is several parts sweet and vanilla and sour and citrus and I sort of get the sandalwood overtones but not really. Fairly complex for what I'm thinking is only a notch or two above an entry-level bourbon? The tartness blends with the wood making it quite delightful! It does remind me of Maker's Mark to some extent. Perhaps that's why I like it more than most ordinary Bourbons. And it doesn't burn on the finish like many popular but terrible "Budweiser of bourbon" brands.

Tullamore D.E.W. XO Caribbean Rum Finish
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed February 14, 2020 (edited July 1, 2020)Potential daily drinker and a good taste for the price! The Caribbean rum casking lends a bit of sweetness and a tiny bit of tart flavor. Tullamore itself is basically a good daily drinker for a relatively inexpensive price and this one adds some value to that.
